Hi all have had Bronchiectesis for many years, recently had Strepp pneumonia, at A&E yesterday with terrific pain under rib cage right side, had tests diagnosed with Pleuracy, no antibiotics just CoCodamal which are hard on my stomach, am under a really good Thoracic Consultant but can't get to see him until next month. Wondered if I should be on antibiotics. Pain too bad to sleep.

HI Tutt,
With Pleurisy treating the underlying cause is when they generally give meds. Other than painkillers, as far as I can remember from my earlier years, they do not treat the pleurisy itself. They might drain the fluid if it is really bad.
I am sure others will correct me if I am wrong.
No antibiotics for pleurisy is strange..If you are breathless and can’t stand the pain, go back or go to your GP first thing on Monday.
Take care x
In the meantime I forgot to say, heat will help with the pain, a hot water bottle etc..
I had abs when I had it few years ago can't remember which ones thAough, somyes id ask for some. Hot water bottles are good, it's horrid I know I'm allergic to codeine and can't take Ibruprofen either so just had paracetamol which isn't a huge help!
Take care and rest a that's the best cure for it, no exertion whatsoever and keep warm.
