Sore. Fingertips.

Hi, I have been taking the drug called Irressa now for about 4 months now and although I have quite a few side effects, I have cracked sore fingertips. I do moisturise my hands but they are still cracked. Has anyone else out there experienced this and what did you use to help.

Hi

I sometimes suffer from cracked skin on the tips of my fingers as well. Ironically it started yesterday, noticed when I was squeezing lemons to make Christmas Puds. It is very painful and a real annoyance.

However, help is at hand. You may have to seek about or ask Chemist to order a cream called Lotil. Made by Fento Pharma. You can more usually find it in country chemists. Farmers and agricultural workers who often have wet and chapped hands use it. Not expensive and is the only product I have found that works. I'm a real fan.

Hi Tryfan, I will go to my pharmacy today and ask about this cream you mentioned. I live in semi rural countryside and there are lots of farmers here so hopefully I will be able to get my hands on this cream. Thank you for the advice.

I had this earlier this year and was told it was a because of all the meds I take - something to do with the way they dry everything up. Once I started to drink more water (up to 3 ltrs a day plus the usual cups of tea) it has cleared up. It takes about a month to have any effect so don't give up. TC.

Hi, 3 Litres seems a lot of liquid, I do drink a lot of water but get sick of drinking water. I drink weak tea, sometimes decaffeinated. I just feel bloated with drinking so much. I will give it a go again. I heard that omega oils are good for skin, I take supplements for this. I try and eat oily fish and advocado's. I really would like to eat something naughty what I enjoy but when I do I pay the price with my stomach due to these drugs I take. Thank you.

That is really unfortunate. All these websites are good at telling you what the side effects of different medications are but none seem to offer any advice on treating the side effects.

Hi again Chris and sorry to hear you are still suffering. The idea of Lotil is a really good one because it contains Urea, which is great for healing from the inside of the crack out. If you do go to your chemist it may be worth asking what creams they have with the highest content of Urea. May be in the footcare department, for cracked heels??? All the best. Diz xx

Thanks for that Dizzi, I have tried aveeno and other creams but they do not help very much. I will pop to my pharmacy tomorrow and ask them. I'm also having really bad pimples or blisters on my face. Nothing helped them until my practice nurse prescribed me a antibiotic cream called frusidic acid 2% cream, it has helped the spots/pimples. I use to have a lovely clear skin until I started taking Irressa.

Hi again Chris, Good luck with your search for some help. Have heard of the frusidic cream and hope that continues to help. Just reading another post on here about Manuka Honey and thought that may also be of help to you?? Apparently you need the highest strength you can get (busier bees one wonders) and hospitals are now using it for its' many healing properties. I was given it recently, as an in-patient for sores on my bum following hefty bouts of diarrhea. It came in the smallest packet you've seen BUT my goodness it helped. It's used for leg ulcers/wounds etc and is an old idea gone trendy, it's amazing healing is well worth its' high price to buy. May be worth talking to your "friendly" pharmacist, tho it's most available from health food shops or on-line. May well be worth a try on your face and on your poor hands??

Me- suffering loss of nails and hair on Tagrisso! These new drugs may be super BUT they sure know how to hit us where it hurts the most. My nails were my pride and joy (done every fortnight) - now I have three nails on one hand and four on the other!! Cut price manicures come to mind - but they have so many ridges and splits in them there is truly no point. SO woolly hat and gloves to cover it all up is the order of the day- so much for being vain!!

Anyway - no pain no gain they used to say- aaagh!

Love and empathetic ((hugs)) Diz xxx

Yes, I agree. When I shown my consultant /Oncologist he just said"well I can't do anything about that. So they don't mind persuading me to take these poisonous drugs but they could not give two hoots about how I will cope with the side effects.
