First defence

Hi

I'm off on my hols next week with 2 1/2 hour flight. A while ago I read a post about flying and prevention of catching infections using a spray or balm called First Defence. I've seen it in Boots in spray form but was under the impression that it came as a balm as well. If not I'll just buy the spray.

Thanks.

Thanks Stone, I'll buy that tody.

Hi Grayjay, there is a balm called Nasal Guard Cold and Flu block which comes in a tiny tube. Boots sell it. It is quite expensive but you only need a tiny bit round your nostrils and mouth. I began to use it because First Defense can sometimes be quite harsh. I used it all last winter and on an 8 hour flight. No colds or viruses at all. Fingers crossed for this year.

Take care inhaling the Vicks 1st Defence. When I first used it I sniffed it right up the same as I do with my daily nasal spray. Oh my goodness, it was awful. Just a squirt in each nostril, without inhaling.

Thanks peege, good advice. I finally settled on Boots Dual Defence after comparing 3 different products. Hope it works.

All the best.

I sniff tea tree oil on flights and put some under my nose to help keep infections out

It doesnt work for me, just get a very sore nose from it.

I tried the Vicks version and almost burnt the nose off myself!! My eyes watered something awful!!

Hi. Also take some antiseptic wipes. The main way to catch colds and flu on a plane is through touch as the surfaces rarely get properly cleaned. Wipe down tray tables, arm rests, the seat belt buckle etc., and use a tissue to lock and unlock the toilet door. Have a good flight!

I use the vicks nasal spray which I note others have had problems with - they do tell you not to inhale it and I don't sniff it up as it is meant to lodge I believe at he back of the nostril as that is where the flu virus takes hold - so if you sniff it or inhale it goes through there and then through to the back of the throat so would not work so well and may sting - if my nose gets sensitive I only have a couple of doses - had not heard of the gel but sounds a good idea - have a good flight whatever xx
