just being a friend Margaret xx😊

This is what I do Margaret, bore myself back to sleep!

Last winter I wrote a little rhyme

That it, I’d had come to hate.

I think I even said

I wished I’d hibernate

But now that summers nearly here

A second thought I’ve got

I’m sitting here at half-past three

And I’m far too bl**dy hot.

You can’t hibernate in summer

Cos then you would be dead.

So I’d better try and get some sleep

And climb back into bed.

Hi Don thanks for that but I could and do hibernate

Hi T2d, I live on my own and the nights can be long, tedious and sometimes scary. I tend to wake up suddenly every one and a half to two hours. I keep my radio tuned to radio 4 extra. When I wake I put it on with the sleep button set for 30 mins. I hear an awful lot of halves of plays and comedy shows but it gets me through the night.

I'm glad you have found a way to get a little rest because I know the nights can and are long and scary indeed I find daytime much the same and find life has no structure but when I do have to go somewhere or someone is coming I panic I'm afraid of my own shadow nowadays

When I wake up in the night (which I do, many times) if I'm not too uncomfortable I listen to audiobooks on my iPad. If my joints are too painful or I've got restless legs or cramp, one of which happens two or three times a week, I come downstairs, take more pain killers, make a hot chocolate, and play games on my iPad. It takes at least an hour for me to be ready to go back to bed. Now that I don't work any more it usually doesn't really matter if I sleep in a bit in the morning, but when I was working it was awful!

Hi,

I have the same problem , usually reading my emails or answering questions on this site until at least 3 am.

Do you know the reason for your insomnia?

Time_2_drink profile image
Time_2_drink in reply to mauschen

The reason is being like this on oxygen breathless in pain and scared out of my mind for the future it is torture

Perhaps fear is your greatest enemy? Why don't you give the nurses a call if you are in the UK and maybe they can help or give you information about where you can get some help. When you deal with the fear, the other symptoms might be lighter to control.

I hope you get some sleep soon.

Take care

Thank you I. Am going to speak to a psychiatrist on Wednesday. Hoping to gain something from that because I am unable to get any rest from the pain sweats and fear so I am desperate for help,

Time_2_drink in reply to mauschen

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but at the momment not sure what I will get out of it because after all what I really want I can't have I suppose I need to learn to accept that .I am seeing her again she wants me to work on achieving one small thing a day and getting some sense of satisfaction she also said I need my pain addressing by the doctor so I will keep posted has to how it goes take care

At least you can talk to someone who is not directly involved. Perhaps you will be able to help yourself by talking through your fears with an objective listener.

Change the things you can and learn to accept the things you cannot change. I wish you well.

No problem falling asleep but waking up every hour or so is very tiring.

Don't know if this would work for you but I've found that taking a half dose of Night Nurse every few nights help me sleep for at 6 hours without waking...Makes a great difference to me

Maybe check with your doc to see if it's ok for you to use

Hope you find a way

I have an earpiece (so as not to wake partner) linked to radio 4 and that gets me off to sleep. I sleep relatively well at the moment, wake around 6 for a pee, then get back into bed and (as I have a self managed abdominal prolapse) I do my pelvic floor exercises. Almost always works and I wake up couple of hours later.

Radio Four is my husbands choice and radio two for pop master my brain seems to have lost the power to concentrate be it television or radio the programme finished and I have took nothing in x

I have a couple of calming fantasies so try and fall into those. This usually works. If that still doesn't work I get up and do a crossword until my brain is frazzled and my eyes keep closing.

Around once a month or so I have to resort to a couple of large vodkas always bearing in mind that drink will only guarantee up to 4 hours of kip before waking, but sometimes I would kill for less than that.

I know what you mean but dare to have a drink with the oramorph and tramadol I tried counting minuses and pluses didn't work didn't go to bed till 4am the bloody pain stopped me from getting of chair so I am in bed at momment just deciding if it is worth bothering to get up I'm afraid

I m glad you have found away afraid doesn't work for me wish it did

Can't remember if I told you this, but I once told a GP that the only way I could get to sleep was by drinking several whiskies (true at the time.) He was quite keen to prescribe some sleeping pills after that.
