Just to let everyone know that Lidl are selling a Nebuliser which I have purchased and used 4 times now!! It costs £29.99 it is a Sanitas Neb, it runs on batteries, so portable to take away on holidays, no cable and extremely quiet. I am pleased I bought it - so it won't be on sale forever.

I bought one 4 years ago from Lidl, as a scout leader it is perfect for camping, etc. I always have it with me when I am away from home. I do not have to have nebulisers regularly any more, but when I was taking it 4x a day this was very handy.
If I need to have a neb late at night, this is the one I use as it is very quiet, the larger machine (also bought from Lidl £19.99) is a bit quieter then the standard hospital issue machines as well as more compact is still working well.
have you ever changed the pipes or the nebuliser bowel bit on , on the large machine if so wondered where you got it from if there is any where in uk you can get them could only find a site aboard , or if you can use another make on them and it will work ok ,

Hi Nitap, very interesting indeed. I already have two nebulisers, one large and one smaller one. They are both very noisy and the thought of having a quieter, portable one to use when away sounds very attractive.
How long do the batteries last I wonder ? Can you recharge them and how expensive are the batteries ? Sorry for all the questions 
The batteries x 4 were in the box with this - they were not rechargeable. Not too sure how long they last 👍
Just adding the batteries last on average 180 minutes, so think they will be ok for the actual times of use. Also just to add there is a 3 year warranty as well. 1 adult mask, 1 child's mask, mouthpiece, instruction booklet - Well written to its use, batteries, and a Storage Bag xx

No I didn't make it. Every day it seems to take longer to pull myself round on a morning. Got 3 drs apts on Thursday starting at 8.30am. Goodness know how I will manage it. But will get a few issues sorted, including a sick note.
Just make sure your doctor will give you a prescription for the nebs Steph as some medics refuse to do so. They do need an annual service as well, including filter changes, so it is good to check that spares are freely available.

I asked doctor if I bought my own nebuliser would he supply the medicine .he said no to many people become reliant on them because they used them in hospital I ask you ...try to help yourself and you get knocked back

U can get help with nebulizer if u got chest specialist and warrants u having this and prescribes u the mess u need to go in it if your prescribed news u can look about and get a neb on line quite cheap hope info helps

Doctors are very stingy about home nebs in the UK. To be fair I can understand their concern: people might use them for severe or even life-threatening attacks and not get checked out at a hospital, and not get steroids. But then again they give epipens out to people with anaphylactic allergies instead of making them get to a hospital or ambulance first, and I’m sure there must be people who use their épi and don’t get checked out afterwards. So why is this any different to home nebulisers?
I do know however that doctors tend to be a lot less stingy about giving out saline nebs. I have saline nebs at home and use them when I’m ill with an infection or something, it does help. If I need salbutamol or ipratropium nebs then I need to be in hospital.
I am considering badgering my doc to give me just ONE of each, so that if I use them and don’t get checked out they will know, but I will have them to use on the way to the hospital, or in the waiting room. Even that 15 minutes could make all the difference.
Does anyone know where to get the lidl nebuliser serviced?
Could you tell me if the Nebulisers that Lidl sell are able to take nebulised antibiotics? Quite a few of the advertised ones on the web do not.

Hi Patches yes they do as I am currently on Ventolin, Nebuliser and then Gentamicin 40mg/ml Solution. I started this on Friday 27th Jan, I have now ANOTHER bug/bacteria/virus. This is the 10th one in a year, and really getting fed up with it all. Just to add I don't feel well on this at the moment, so will have to see ??
I must add that this treatment will be for a month grrrrrh !

I was taking Colomycin via Nebuliser for years with no problem, but coming off it each summer and back again on September. Last September for some reason as soon as I went on it again it made me breathless and I am just about to start on Gentamycin Via Nebuliser probably in about a month. The Colomycin certainly kep the bugs at bay so I would recommend it. How do you find the Gentamycin? I do hope it is as good as the Colomycin. Do you have any side effects with the Gentamycin?

Hi Patches, sorry to say not feeling good on Gentamycin at all. I feel very tired and weak, and my chest is tight and sob, the worst I have had. I have a different kind of cough which is sore and non productive and I know there is a lot of gunk that I need to bring up ? Also a bit weird with my hearing grrrrh ! Sore mouth and throat it is worse when waking up though. I had appt with Respiratory Copd clinic this week, told them and they said some people do feel bad when first taking but it does pass, so if I could carry on then I should feel ok. Ok I just carry on heh!! I hope all is well with you xx
Sorry Nitap that you are feeling so bad. I did not think that Gentamicin caused hearing problems when taken by Nebuliser. That is what I understand from what my specialist said. I shall be seeing him again before I go on it so I shall put it to him again and let you know what he says. In the meantime do watch out with your hearing. I did hear that via IV that Gentamicin does cause severe hearing problems and kidney failure, but none of these is supposed to happen with the nebuliser. As a matter of interest most of the AB via Nebuliser cause tightness in the chest. In my case with Colomycin it did not resolve itself over time.

Unfortunately, the doctor did not put me on Gentamycin via the nebuliser. He put me on Tobramycin Instead. (See today's post).
However, I was in hospital and got IV Gentamycin along with Tasozine which did absolutely nothing for me. They made my stomach quite sick and I would not like to take them again.
I hope your problems are sorted out and you are feeling better.
