Salt Lamps for COPD

Hi All

Has anyone ever used a salt lamp and if so has it helped with COPD?

On a different note, Spirometry test finally booked for Jan 4th!

I have a small Salt lamp, I haven't taken much notice of it, but thinking about, yes it does help a little,

I have a salt lamp that I bought from a salt cave in Hove. I didn't realise until I got it home that you need different sizes for different sized rooms. I was intending to put mine in the bedroom but my husband thought it might knock me out - or worse - if it came down off the shelf above my bed and landed on me, so we put it in the lounge. It may need to be bigger as I can't honestly say I'm aware of it helping - but it looks nice and that, in itself, makes it worth having.

I have heard a lot of people use salt lamps, with positive results.

I don't, but I use a salt saline solution in my nebulizer. The salt is to thin the mucus so as to be able to cough it up easier.

I have noticed an improvement when ever I'm near the ocean (salt water) for a few days.

I don't bring up mucus at all. Just have a constant tight chest. Hope fully get some medication once I have my spirometry test.

Sounds like your chest tightness is more asthma or allergy related.

I saw my pulmonary specialist in November. I have bronchiectasis. I felt I could get the mucus up (not an issue with you), but my chest was always tight and had shortness of breath most of the time.

He started me on a new inhaler, Dulera. It has made a world of difference. Now, every little shortness of breath, more energy, I have been able to decrease my prednisone (which I have had to take for years) intake from 40mg to 20 mg per day and decrease the usage of my nebulizer from 3-4 times a day to 2-3 times.

At the same time that I started the new inhaler, I started taking over the counter meds for allergies, an antihistamine, I was diagnosed with allergies 30 yrs ago, had several yrs of shots for it, but have not thought much about it since.

I don't know if it was the Dulera or the allergy med, but you may want to try to treat your issue as an asthma/allergy issue.

Check with your doctor first.

I Have taken antihistamine for years now as have allergic rhinitis. I also have steroid drops for when it is really bad.

When I lie on my back I have to force air out of my lungs so don't think it is Asthma. Won't know for sure until Wednesday when I have my spirometry test. Only had an xray so far. The blue Ventolin inhalers do nothing (or that's what it feels like) Will be nice to get a proper diagnosis to be honest.

Sounds like a mystery.

The doctor should be able to give you a diagnose.

Salt lamps seem to help so many of us with COPD Emphysema but in my case its makes it worse as does using saline neutralizer. Worth a try in case you are among those will benefit.

My GP s at time did not interpret spirometry test correctly missing PAH for 10 years.Could this have been their remit as showed how couldn't sustain function DLSA higher rate mobility ,dyspnoea & lipo-lymphoedema diagnosed 2 yrs ago when heart failure ignored before & after the cardiac arrest by the medical 11yrs ago ??

Have found the spa steam room helpful along with acupuncture & antibiotics & diuretics .As for the CPAP machine ? !!
