So sorry to hear how ill you've been. It takes time to get over such a bad infection, so be kind to yourself, make sure you eat, and drink plenty of fluids. Others who've been through what you're going through will be along soon to say what they've done to help themselves.

Thanks for kind words and auppo

Hi there, I'm sorry that you are having such a lousy time. I was in and out of hospital earlier this year with an empyema and exacerbation. IVs 3 times a day in hospital and at home for 8 weeks in total. It has left me wiped out but gradually I am building up my strength with good food and activity. I have to push myself both to eat and to do things but know that this is important. When I was in hospital I used the time between IVs to do exercises on my bed, walk around the hospital and do lots of clearing of my chest which is really important. Sometimes it is easy to neglect this when the antibiotic begins to work and reduce the secretions but it is vital.

plus ear holing the nurses' conversations which can be very funny.

It may be that the antibiotic you are on isn't working too well. I started on Tazocin which worked fine at first then I had to have Meropenem which finished the job. As you are in hospital they should be able to tell by your blood infection levels, temp and sputum tests. When your consultant comes around ask him/her for details.

Be kind to yourself. I do hope that you are feeling better soon.

Hi kiaman, still standing has some good suggestions.

I too have had IV antibiotics in the past and when you are not tethered to the line and use the bathroom make sure you wash your hands well....I know that may seem a bit obvious....but I also used a clean paper towel or tissue to grasp the lock and handle after hand washing, and then put it in a bin.

I remember someone on this site giving that tip ages ago....they also used their elbow or shoulder when opening doors.

A friend also gave me some probiotic drinks which the nurses kept in the frig...you could ask the staff if they would do that.

Take care

Hope you feel better soon I really feel for you. Knitters suggestion about door handles is a good tip one I have done since seeing a video at work many years ago. If I am In a queue waiting to use the loo I am shocked at how many people do not stop to wash their hands these people just have no consideration for others. As I said Kiaman I hope you recover and feel better soon xx
