Flare up.

Hi, I have mild COPD and I have a mild chest infection, my breathing feels a bit restricted but is ok once i use my inhaler for a few hours, this is the first time I've had to use my inhaler since diagnosed last year. My question is will my breathing go back to the way it was before or am I likely to have to keep on using my inhaler after my chest clears up ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, you will go back to normal but you must really look after yourself to get completely better. Unfortunately this takes longer than in folks without lung issues.

Drink loads, take extra vitamins, build up your exercise gently, go back to your gp if you think the infection isn't clear. Rebuild your immune system and keep it tip top to avoid future infections and further lung damage. As you're mild and work at it you can keep it mild.

All the best. Peege

Ok thank you, I really have put loads of effort in the last 15 months, thought I'd made it through the winter then my 4 yr old son sneezed all over my face (like they do) ended up with the sniffles and now this, thanks for the reply, I feel more at ease now.

Yep that'll do it! I have two tiny grandchildren who are always snuffling or coughing. I used to catch things all the time. It's loads better now I've rebuilt my immune system. Another thing I'm convinced has made a difference it Boots Cold and Flu Defence.mits blooming brilliant. I have a squirt before I see them, during (several times) and fir a few hours afterwards. Vicks do a similar thing but I wouldn't dare change .. I have one in each bag.

Hi peege I like your advice to warbler it's very positive - I am supposed to be mild too but it never feels like that! Can I ask what you take to build up your immune system (apart from the Boots stuff you already mentioned to warbler)? Anything else you recommend by way of vitamins or health food things? thanks...xxxx stillmovin

Hi stillmovin, I've increased my intake of fruit and veg over the past 15 months by a huge amount, increased my exercise, wash my hands more regularly, quit smoking and have felt so much better, it's just that I ended up with the sniffles and it went straight to my chest.

when you say you don't feel mild what do you mean? Do you show symptoms etc ? This is the first time I've really noticed it.

Hi warbler very good advice from peeg. I think inhalors are very important as we don't want to be caught off guard and have an emergency,so I suppose it protects us abit more to be ready to fight off any thing t,hat is harmful to our health. Happy days.x

I have noticed that since i stopped working i have had less infections. University campus was infestated with students new to each other & the area. Bronchitus, coughs, colds & flu were rife. Flu defrnce sounds a good investmeny. Love Margaret x
