Now You've Warmed Up, How About A Serious Mental Workout . . .

There is a row of five houses, each with a front door of a different colour. Each house has a single occupant, each of whom has a different pet, prefers a different alcoholic drink, and smokes a different brand of cigarettes than any of the others.

Brenda's house has a red door.

Sandra has a pet dog.

Deirdre prefers whiskey.

The house with the green door is next to the house with the white door, on the left.

The person with the green door prefers lager.

The person who smokes Pall Mall has a pet rabbit.

The person with the yellow door smokes Dunhill.

The person living in the centre house prefers wine.

Nancy lives in the first house.

The person who smokes Benson & Hedges lives next to the one with a pet cat.

The person with a pet hamster lives next to the person who smokes Dunhill.

The person who smokes Lucky Strike prefers beer.

Georgina smokes Embassy.

Nancy lives next to the house with a blue door.

The person who smokes Benson & Hedges has a neighbour who prefers vodka.

One of the occupants has a pet iguana. Which one?

I knew it. Your very smart with logic riddles. She has another new one on this post plus you didn't do the quickie. Pm her cause other people are still doing them. You go smartie!

I think your right up there with stilltruckin on this kind of stuff.Let me know your score on the quickie test.

Forgot to ask you. How long did it take you? 😊

I would think to be certain I had it right and re checking approx 2 hours ish x :)

I made a grid with the houses in the order I thought they should have been, deom the clues given. Tried to use all the info but failed to hlean the answer from it. Is it a trick question/solution perhaps ? Anyhow, I give up :)

No tricks, it's pure logic.

For what it's worth, the way I started was by drawing 6 rows of 5 squares, one under another, leaving a generous space under each row, and assigning one of the 6 elements (Name, Drink, Pet ...) to each row.

Then I wrote what I knew for sure (because it was given) in the appropriate square: 'Nancy' in the first square of the Name row, and 'Wine' in the centre square of the Drink row.

And I used the space under the squares to make notes on what possibly could, or definitely couldn't, apply to that square as I managed to deduce it. A lot of crossing out was involved . . .

If it hadn't been specified that one of them has a pet iguana, then that would have been a logically possible solution - though a bit cheaty :)

Spent ****** ages trying to get the answer to this logic problem - done grids - putting it down now (Corrie - bit rubbish storyline at present, at least there is Gogglebox later). Think you've foxed me hun. cx

Georgina or one of the other 4 :D

More cheatiness!

I will PM anyone who wants to know the correct answer.

Came back to it and finally managed to fill in the grid. The blank space left in the pet column is under Georgina's name, so she must be the one who has the iguana.

Spent last evening with my graph paper thought I was doing well, but then noticed a mistake had another go and I believe its down to Georgina, I dare say if I had another go I just might come up with another lady. Keep smiling ;)

For those suffering cerebral burn-out:

There are 57 blue socks and 129 red socks all mixed up together in box. Without looking inside, what's the minimum number of socks you'd have to take from the box to be sure of having a pair of the same colour?

Isnt that kind of a guess? How can there be a set answer to it?

😊😊

stilltruckin profile image
stilltruckin in reply to rubyred777

I'll tell you a way to work it out exactly:

Minimum number of socks = (√(129-57)/2)/2

:)

...me brain hurts :( don't wanna play no more !!! Come to think stilltrucking,, I've never been much good at that kind of mental exercise - it's a bit like asking 'how long's a piece of string?'

Have a good weekend x

Thanks for your encouragement Ruby but I think my brain just burnt out - a tempory condition, I hope :D How about yourself? Did you manage to solve the clues?

Have fun xxx

Did you solve it? (Lovelight )

I worked fri. night and Sat.

Went to visit my mom Sun.

No time at all. Today I'm going to get it. Needed to have time

to play with it.

The sock one-- forget it!
