Rinsing your mouth out : Hi all when I... - Lung Conditions C...
Rinsing your mouth out
No need with Ventolin.
With Seretide it's to minimise the risk of oral thrush from the steroid component.
We dont need to as stilltrucking said but i dont know about anyone else on here i often forget and ive had that thrush a few times its horrible so perhaps rinsing after everything is a good habit x x
Hi Bliss,
I use Seretide and Ventolin also, but in the form of accuhalers which is a powdered, metered dose and so it is vital to rinse your mouth out when using accuhalers to prevent thrush.
Another point is that I was advised if taking both inhalers, or accuhalers at the same time, always to take ventolin first, then wait a few minutes before taking the second inhaler, because the ventolin will open the airways and make the preventative inhaler work more effectively in getting the medication where it needs to go.
Good luck,
hugs from Huggs xxx
Thanks huggs I to have accuhalers and thanks for telling me to use Ventolin first no one has told me that take care xx
Just for good measure I rinse before as well as after. 1, to make sure no food particles go into lungs and 2, in the hope that the Seretide on my throat get a little diluted. OCD or what!
the seretide and any dry powder inhalers you may have to take I have 3 to take twice a day and rinse and gargle every time.
Thanks anthony634 yes I all ways rinse but I just wondered if I didn't rinse with the Ventolin would it still give me thrush xx Still best not take that chance xx
definitely not unless you are using it in a powder format not sure if they still do ventolin spin caps any more
Thank you all for your replys love Bliss xx
It,s the steroids that are the problem, ventolin does,nt have a steroid so no need to gargle but it would,nt do any harm.I rinse with all my other inhalers just in case.D.
Two things - rinsing after steroid inhalers is also (in addition to avoiding thrush) important to help minimise ingested steroid.
2ndly, just to balance the 'Ventolin first' theory, our rspy nurse says the drug in the dose binds to receptors in the lungs, common to the steroid, so take the steroid first.. and leave it 30 mins before ventolin. I suspect it don't make a lot of diff - 'cos they supply many of them in combination.. so whatever works best for you ..and it may be different dependant on you condition, as some asthmatics don't use ventolin daily, anyway.
