I have COPD, before and after diagnosis, I have times where I feel like I'm gonna pass out and dizziness. Is this all a part of the disease?

I wouldn't say this is part of the disease. But don't forget if you have lung problems then lack of oxygen can cause dizziness. I would tell your doctor and/or ring up the BLF no. under the red balloon. They will be open again at 9 am tomorrow. x

Hi there don't think so but I had it and it was high blood pressure put me on a tablet and am fine now go and tell your doctor and get your blood pressure monitored. Hope this helps and good luck

Lack of oxygen causes dizziness. COPD needs to be managed, don't let it manage you, learn your own limitations and that really is the hardest part of coming to terms with it.

Slow down for a start, use pursed lip breathing when doing anything strenuous which might make you get out of breath. Make this breathing technique your friend, you'll use it a lot..it goes like this.. breath in as far as possible, then slowly through a pursed lipped mouth, as if you're silently whistling, exhale as far as you comfortably can.

If you feel dizzy stop what you're doing immediately, if you can't find some where to sit then lean forward slightly, place your hands on your thighs (this is called Triangulation) and use Pursed lip breathing to get your heart rate under control. If you're sitting, use a cushion or the top of a table and lean slightly forward taking your weight onto your forearms, and use the same breathing technique, this technique brings your breathing under control and allows you to exhale more CO2.

Practice breathing through your diaphragm. Lay down (as far as you're comfortable) place a hand on your chest and one hand on you stomach, try and get the hand on your chest not to rise, whilst making the hand on your stomach move up and down. This type of breathing allows much more control over your condition, especially when you have infections, it's how I breath and I'm 20 years living with what was once termed "end stage" COPD.

Hope this helps
