Hi, I have COPD, am 64 and otherwise fairly fit. I have been asked to go to Angola for a few weeks' work. Can anyone advise on whether Angola is a high risk area for one such as me? I have found nothing useful following the usual web searches...
Many thanks in anticipation!

Sorry I cannot be of much help but I have just read Paul Theroux's book The last Train to Zona Verde ....about his trek to Angola. Have you tried asking the Foreign Office for advice.
Hello, thanks for replying. I haven't tried the FO yet, I think they tend to be over-cautious sometimes and I'm hoping to get some medical knowledge combined with experience! I may be hoping for too much! I'll look out for PT's book, thanks.
Hi Hirschhs, You don't mention at what stage you are with COPD (Is it empysema), as this will dictate what actions you need to follow with your proposed trip. Best regards Martin
Hi Martin, I have the whole 9 yards though I function pretty well - rarely needing the oxygen machine I have in the house but with blood oxygen levels often below 90. Does that help?!
With your sats as they are sorry to say I would see Angola as a huge risk. If you were to go down with an infection or worse treatment is not into our standards. Even a healthy person is at risk there is anything was to effect health. My honest view is this is one foregoing..
