We feel powerless as there. Is nothing we can do to help he seems to be sleeping a lot now so does that mean his body is shutting down ?.

Hi there, so very sorry to hear this, you obviously care very much for him.

All of us on the forum are sufferers on various levels and not medics so your best bet is to call the helpline where there are medical experts (also counsellors) to speak to for answers an guidance.

Wishing your dad, you and your family all the very best. Kind regards, Peeg

So sorry to hear about your father-in-law - I'm no expert but I think that sleeping a lot means he is conserving what energy he does have but for a more informed answer please ring the BLF helpline. Wishing you and your family all the best. Take care, Lizzy.

All sound advice as usual and nice that it comes for an older person, I’m only 82 so it is nice to think I might still have a few years to go, and if I have made it this far, believe me there is no reason you younger ones can’t catch up with me as well.

As for the snoozing. Why not? It sure feels good waking up.

It's really best to review your father-in-laws condition with his doctor or respiratory nurse. Ninety-two is a grand old age and he deserves to be made as comfortable as possible. If he's struggling to breath there are a few medications that can make him more comfortable. As for sleeping, my husband has very severe COPD and is asleep more than he is awake. Trying to breath isconstant exercise so anyone with severe COPD needs more sleep.
