I'm the same mid8. Ate a 'breakfast sandwich' from a garage once when I was too hungry to drive further without food. Thought I was going to die within half an hour of eating it!! Heart racing, head pounding - scary. Looked at wrapper and it had so much salt content it could have preserved a whole pig let alone the bit of bacon in it. Steered clear of anything similar every since.

I think it started with a bag of crisps, its no wonder people are ill,it looks like I will have to give up a lot of things but its going to set my mind at rest, thanks Nanny49

There are all sorts of preservatives that can affect people that are deemed fit for human consumption. If I have some burgers my face goes bright red. I can not have shell fish as I am allergic to iodine so mussels are a big no no. Fried mushrooms can bring on my Gout? Which affects my breathing?

About two weeks ago i cooked a gammon joint for Sunday lunch i tasted it to see how much salt was in by the time we sat down i was the worst i have ever been its a good job i didn't eat anymore of it. my heart was still pounding hours later and my throat was tight.

hi again it definitely sounds like an intolerance of preservative of a particular kind used in meats. Pork products can do that to me but not all the time. it is a bit hit and miss I am afraid. You will haveto try and read the labels to find out whcih ones are the worst. best wishes Irene

mid8, Food is very individual. but indeed, too much salt or sugar can damage you! Monosodium Glutamate is very often hidden to give "more taste". It affects the brain if too much is eaten. ( You can buy a pot of it in some shops, especially used liberally by Chinese takeaways.) Aspartame is supposed to be not good for you and your brain! Some additives starting with a letter E on the packages are dodgy too. My hair curls just by thinking about it. Do take care and hope you won't get this nasty experience again!
