Life is ......

Life is a roller coaster and when you are young it ascends so slowly that the days seem endless waiting for the time when you will be old enough to do some awaited task.

Then, suddenly having reached the summit, the descent is so fast that you are left breathless, wondering how that time passed so swiftly.

I now live a leisurely life style, everything being taken in its own time, but am also becoming more and more convinced that the hours are getting shorter, almost as though someone out there was lopping off the odd minute or two when I haven’t been looking.

How I wish I had been more eager throughout my lifetime, to have treasured and been more observant of all those wasted minutes that should have been lived not wasted like some senseless, discarded hangover.

I guess I can’t slow down the passage of time but can learn to be aware of it and make the most of what we get.

As I write there are a pair of robins at the bird bath in the pouring rain, that alone is a picture to cheer up anyone in my book, so on that note I am off for my lunchtime nap.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Allan.

Hi Allan I completely agree with you. I too have found that the older you get the faster time flies and seasons seem like weeks. There is a dreadful sense of time running out isn't there? I understand now when they say youth is wasted on the young. Funny thing is the older I have got the more I regret lost opportunities not taken even if they would have ended in failure. It's all very strange isn't it? xx

Wise words, all. I am into my 80s and mobility not good but I am told the brain is sharp. I am always dreaming about the past, especially when I was a student nurse.

The years do flash by now. When I was younger, I took youth for granted. Now I try and grab on to every minute if I can. My husband is terminally ill but I will try in his memory to appreciate the rest of life.

80+ you wrote such wise words. I look out of my window and appreciate what I see. My new garden since we moved is wild and untended but we will be having someone to sort it out to reveal and use the potentialities that it has .

Hi Eighty plus. I learned this lesson when my Husband took early retirement because of health problems. We would go off to the sea two or three times a week and we had many holidays abroad. I try to tell people to enjoy what they have while they can. It's nice to be aware of what's around you as well. A beautiful sunny day, a deer in the fields or a buzzard hovering in the sky. It's also lovely to hear the blackbirds sing in the early morning or evening. The robin has a beautiful voice as well. There are so many things to appreciate. Even our four seasons. X

What a great post! Can relate to it absolutely! If only we had the hindsight when younger! We Realy must take each day as it comes & find something good in it,even if it's a little hard at times! We do appreciate the smaller things in life,as we get older.xxx

eightyplus, you started a wonderful post which is so inspiring for the older people to read. I look at postcards and photos and wonder about them. However, I have one friend who have given in to negative thoughts which she should try and avoid. My advice to the 50s, 60s and onwards, enjoy each moment to create a memory.

What, don't tell me it goes even faster than it does now Eightyplus!

I'm hoping I will live as long and enjoy the next 20-30 years.

Thank you for the reminder to enjoy and appreciate the wonders of life every day. I live by my moments of joy, there have been a certain amount of c**p times but there is much joy to come. I have a dear little granddaughter, Daisy who is coming for her 'holidays with Marmar' tomorrow. My Chocolate Lab Fred is patiently waiting for his walk, the sun is shining. Happy days.

There is no better way to start a day Than by waking up every morning.

For me that is the first priority, enjoying every second of it is achieved by maintaining positiveness in everything that I do. And yes of course I feel poorly sometimes, even frightened but it passes until the next time.

I hate the phrase 'borrowed time' which seems to apply so easily to most of us, I would prefer the 'earned time' out of our respect and appreciation of what we can still get from our bodies providing that we give them just a little help in working that little bit longer.

Take our meds, take it easy, eat healthy and of course if you can ..... excercise!

I had this feeling too and I'm only 65! But I think that there's a necessity to maintain your energy level as best as you can. This is why I have explored Qi Gong, the Chinese exercises which include breathing, which give you energy and make you more flexible. It is because I want to regain a bit of this energy that I am intensely interested. any follower?
