I have no knowledge of that particular organisation. but I would imagine that when you joined them, you were issued a policy and a copy of terms and conditions. Do you still have them? Also, when you joined, did you have a medical to determine existing your condition at the time, including the extent of any existing medical problems? If not, go back to your union. They will have lawyers who will be able to advise you, and whether or not you have a valid claim. If you have, I am sure that they will act for you for a reasonable fee. It may only take a letter from them to get results.

Thanks folks,I,m a fervent supporter of out National Health Service and may be slightly prejudice against(unwittingly) more private concerns.D.

I can only agree with Jessica wholeheartedly . We joined Benenden in 2006 when we were both 66 yrs old & they have been brilliant . On three occasions they have helped us avoid a long wait for treatment on the NHS . My husband had Physiotherapy after being in hospital for 5wks ( most of it in ICU ) - I had a course of Acupuncture after a particularly nasty fall which injured my neck & shoulders , & last year I had surgery on my foot . The hospital in Swansea was amazing ( everything about the experience was faultless - including only having to wait 3wks from the initial consultation to the surgery .) I would probably have had to wait at least 2 years for treatment on the NHS . When we joined in 2006 there was no Medical requirement & no age restriction . At present we pay £16.38 per month for both of us which I think is excellent value .

Hi farmer D, My husband joined when he worked for BT and has been in ever since. He had skin cancer and was given the go ahead straight away to see a specialist. I think you can only use them if there is a long waiting list on the NHS. Popplewell
