I use it quite a bit, steph. I do have dry skin (ex psoriasis for many years) I got it from boots, handed over by pharmacist- not on shelves. I gave around £5. What price did you pay? Talking of dry skin everywhere, I wonder how it would affect my breathing?

I wondered about that Pergola. That's why I confine myself to the bathroom when dressing and undressing. Can't be good for us, all that skin flying around! I feel like Linus in Peanuts! Sara.

Does the jel have a name or is it just call doublebase jel. I have dry skin to the point where there is a shower of flakes when I undress. My legs are the worst and peel like I have sunburn. I always use the bathroom to undress.

So far I've not found anything that works well so thanks for the post Steph. Hope you sleep well tonight! Sara x

You should be able to get it on prescription.

Thanks Puffthemagicdragon I'll look into it.

Puff I asked my rheumatologist about it, thought I might get on prescription. She said she had never heard of it, and I would be better just using body moisturiser, which I use or a strong hand cream, which makes no difference. I can't wear long sleeves as I have a lot of flushes and it's horrible to see my arms all bruised or skin broken. Anyway deffo going to get some now as all you nice peeps are always going on about it, lol. Cheryl

Mine was for massive itchiness on my arms a few years back. I have some left and will try it on my easily bruised skin. I get bruises and don't even know it sometimes !

poppyval profile image
poppyval in reply to Puffthemagicdragon

Thanks Puff, did it work on your itching? Its my ankles and lower legs that itch something terrible. I use baby wipes to sooth them, its the only thing that stops the itch, either that or excessive scratching which then causes more bruises.

Sometimes it worked. I never did find out what caused the itching as it disappeared on it's own. Left me with loads of little scars though from where I used to scratch before I went to the docs. Maybe it was stress at the time. I haven't tried it on the bruises yet as I've only seen the suggestion on here.

Thanks for that, fingers crossed. I am told its the steroids and also my 4 weekly infusion for RA ( TOCILIZUMAB ) that cause the itching. We will try it anyway. good luck.

I've also been told it's the steroids causing the bruises.

Hi puff the c.o.p.d nurses told me. I went to bed last night with just a few old bruises that we're fading and this morning i'e woken up with 3 more. Beep beep sick of them. X

It makes me wonder where they came from. One slight knock and a massive bruise appears. I have to explain to people what it's all about ! :)

I have been on the steroids that long, so I took another look at the leaflet in the box, then went on web. Its actually frightening what they can do to you. I don't just bruise but the skin actually breaks and I have to buy silver plasters as they are the only ones that will heal me.

Puffthemagicdragon profile image
Puffthemagicdragon in reply to poppyval

I only use steroids for emergencies so don't get the skin breaking only if it would have done if I wasn't on them.

Puff. I am on steroids permanently because of my RA, 17.5mgs usually and if I get a flare up to 20mgs. Then if I get a chest infection its 40mgs daily for a week then reduce 5mgs a day. Thanks for your help. Take care. Cheryl

Hi poppyval my skin rips also what's silver plasters?

poppyval profile image
poppyval in reply to Steph57

Hi Steph, they are plasters that the healing bit in the middle is silver healing, not sure what's different but they say silver is a great healer. They certainly heal my sore bits up faster than ordinary plasters. Elastoplast are the best but you can get other makes. Give them a try and let me know how you get on. Cheryl

I used to use Doublebase and it was OK. However I now use Dermol cream and find this more effective. I am prescribed this for my itchy skin due to a liver complaint. Have you tried asking for it on prescription?

Steph57 profile image

Hi Wowsa I haven't I''like see the doc I pay for my prescriptions but it'll still be cheaper as I've got a yearly pre paid certificate. X

Hi Wowsa, is the dermal cream just as good at helping with the bruising as doublebase is?

I use E45 Itch Relief pump cream on prescription and E45 wash cream because I have PBC an auto immune liver disease.

I have used it a lot on my dry skin and blue ankles.

I have seen another product which is "said" to help "marvellously" on skin and hair. It's Argan oil. I'm attracted by the reviews on Amazon. One review on the internet says among all things: "Even your baby and your small kids will feel well with regular care with native Argan Oil". If babies can have it, it should be safe.

Please be cautious, because I get enthusiastic very quickly AND I haven't bought it yet! I have itchy legs and an itchy scalp. How I dealt with this is by putting my doctor's prescribed Hydrocortisone at 1%. Hope it helps (Don't throw your Double Base yet!)

Hi Hellingmic I already use Argan oil products a shampoo and conditioner also the oil on my hair and skin it's very good. They are selling it in asda at the minute. Also on Groupon.

Thanks for your recommendation. I think i want to try it.

Try asda first as they sell smaller ones. With the oil you only need a drop it goes a very long way.
