Hi

It

Is now PIP.

Look at

gov.uk/pip

You can download sample of PIP1 and PIP2 from the same site.

You need the help of a benefits advisor to help you understand and complete the form PIP2

The form PIP1 is completed over the telephone.

I know but I've got a neighbour who gets this benefit and even though she's been diagnosed copd she only gets flair ups now and again.

in reply to Steph57

Steph 57,i,ve only had one flair wasn't bad but wasn't good either, had nothing since ,touch wood ,maybe your neighbour is further on with copd, but after reading others on hear I,m in the thinking as we know copd progress there should be something in place for that,do you know what level neighbour is at ? or maybe has other illnesses?xxxcold and windy was rainin, ask your neighbour how he, she went about it,

The first thing to understand is it is not about having copd, it is about how copd, or your disability effects you. For instance those with mild or moderate copd could not be considered disabled as at them stages although those at that stage will need to stop to catch their breath on occasions. It is not disabling and most things can be done.

Once the stage gets to severe things are much harder. But again in most cases cannot be considered disabling enough to get DLA as with care, and taking time, most things can be done.

However once very severe copd is reached. Or as is known as end stage 4 the effects will be very disabling leading to problems with most things in life we take for granted. At that stage you will, still depending on how this effects you, be able to claim pip. It used to be DLA. I can tell you the stages from the heart as I have been through all stages and am now at end stage. They say end stage because their is no stage 5. Although it is possible to live quite a few years even at stage 4.

Hi steph 57,,if you need to go and find out about pip,,go to age concern,,they will explain and do paperwork for you,,they have a better ay of putting things down,,,but please be aware the waiting time for a response is up to 6 months after sending forms in,,i actually phoned atos 1st week of Jan and am still not in the system,,so many people have applied,,but worth giving it a try

I also put it off ... even though people were encouragingme to apply .... psychological reasons I guess. Helping my extra financial requirements that COPD brings .... and that's what it is for after all.

Make sure that you get an expert to check the answers you give, and ensure you keep a copy to refer back too. For instance I wrote 'on a good day' the expert that checked it said that's not a good answer, 'on a better day, is more sensible as it does not imply you have good days. Tell the truth they will check, There are lots of pit falls, just be careful and you should have no problems. There are sites on the net that will sell you a book on how to answer.
