Liquid oxygen has been suggested to me instead of my cylinders. I'd like some more info from people who currently use it. I am on 8Lpm ambulatory and find the cylinders don't last long when I am out and about. Would liquid oxygen last longer?

Hi HF, I'm lucky enough to have both cylinders and liquid oxygen. If I had to manage with only one type I would have to choose the cylinders because they last longer and are less temperamental. I weighed both types and if anything the liquid oxygen when full is slightly heavier.

Also the liquid oxygen needs to be always kept in an upright position or it blows a pressure relief valve or something and starts making very odd noises. It also smokes dry ice when turned up to 6 litres or higher.

Its positive side is that it is more compact and you can fill it yourself at home.

I use mine for short trips to the shops and local stuff but I wouldn't be without my more robust and longer lasting pre-filled cylinders.

Do you use a conserver with your cylinders or is 8 liters to much to able the use of a conserver?

This is very interesting, thank you. I do use a conserver. It is a special one for 'high flow' or something like that.

Doesn't sound like liquid oxygen would be any better from me. I wasn't sure because I want to go away for weekends and couldn't think how I could take LO. I can pop my cylinders and condenser into the car and off we go.

If you contact your oxygen supplier they will deliver cylinders and a condenser to wherever your traveling to.

Thanks dall05. I know my supplier can do this but they need at least two weeks notice and I like to just take off. I find it difficult to plan in advance as I never know how I will be feeling. Also there needs to be someone prepared to be there all day waiting for the delivery. We go to holiday cottages on the spur so by taking mine with me I don't have to worry about whether the owner is prepared to do this.

When I go away I get a small dewar delivered and it fits in the boot of my small Clio so I can refill my Helios while I am away. I am with Air Liquide, give them a call and ask. I also have a igo small concentrator delivered at the same time which I can take with me

When I was first told I needed oxygen I researched and found all these wonderful portable concentrators such as the i-go and thought 'yes, I can do this'. Sadly tests revealed that my oxygen needs were too high for any of the portable ones. I was devastated! However I am a determined person so I dried my eyes and set about trying to make it work for me. Still live in hope that there is a better answer.
