lol oh yes...It wouldn't do to let my appearance go! Actually, I haven't got my head around any of it. I have no real idea what to expect. (I think I am in denial ) but as I am going out more to the Doctors and Hospital, I must make the most of my socialising! Haha. I am also hoping to meet people who are in a similar position so I can start to learn more about what I can expect! xx

I have my hair coloured every 5 weeks with no problem but I never have hairspray on as that has always affected me, even before COPD. So go ahead with your hair colouring.

Well my husband has his hair coloured (he hates the grey actually I quite like it!) and only started it a couple of years ago after his diagnosis (severe COPD) and still has it done. It has not made any noticeable difference to him. Sometimes he finds it difficult at the back wash but then he would anyway. There are organic type products available - not very sure about them to be honest but I am sure your hairdresser would know. I also think I have seen other spray type holding products (if that makes sense) on the supermarket shelf. I personally think it is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to keep up appearances! TAD xx

I spend as little time as possible in the hairdressers a quick dry cut every 5-6 weeks, I do that for economy and because the longer I'm in the salon the greater the chance of someone using hairspray, ( my lungs don't like at all). Home visits could avoid all that but then going to the hairdressers can be a nice outing especially if you meet a friend for coffee or lunch after. :)

Hi Blackey C, I really hate going to the hairdressers, always have and like you I don't like the smell in hairdressers and that's before all this COPD so goodness knows now that it seems to have got a grip on me!

But thanks for your reply.

I get my hair highlighted every few months and it doesn't affect me. I think hairdressers are a lot more canny in their use of hairsprays generally (certainly the salon I use) these days. I think its really important that regardless of diagnosis you carry on doing the things that make you feel good if you still can.

Well guys, I get my hair dyed every 6 weeks or so by my mobile hairdresser. She does not use any spray on me at all. I was using Tresemme extra hold for "years" and my daughter told me for the past 3 years or so to stop using it, it was too fumy...would I listen, no! Then I read on the internet about hairsprays causing fibrosis...which I have. I told my consultant and even took the can along, maybe to get tested, but he declined and said "no it is not that", but he doesn't actually know what has caused my condition!!! A good friend gave me a bottle of Keratase serum, and I have not looked back since, it calms my flyaway hair and I don't even miss my hairspray now. And, yes....I try to look my best too. My confidence has gone down and I have lost so much weight with the illness I don't feel feminine any more, does anyone else feel like me?
