Hi Baz

I am not on oxygen, but there a lot who are on this site. I know that many have been on holiday, including flying. I think that airlines and package holidays have plans for people with oxygen.

The helpline might know more, or you could just email 'easyjet' etc for information.

Hope this helps

Hi Bazwag

The BLF website has a travel pack about going on holiday. It has all the info on traveling with oxygen, insurance, arranging flights etc. Tells you all you need to know.

Hi Bazwag, I regularly travel with oxygen, including on flights. Thomson and Virgin (I think) offer oxygen for the duration of the flight at no cost, whilst other airlines (Thomas Cook for one) charge for the service. You can buy a portable oxygen concentrator to use whilst abroad. Insurance costs a little more and you should shop around. Happy holidays. x

I have started to use Unique, who are competitive but they also make a donation to the British Lung Foundation for every policy sold. blf.org.uk/Page/Insurance-S...

Don't worry, lots of people who use oxygen at home continue to go on holidays. Because you are on home oxygen doesn't necessarily mean that you must have oxygen while flying. You can have an assessment which will determine if you do need oxygen while flying. You may be able to hire oxygen at your destination. You may be able to hire a portable concentrator to take with you on holidays. There are a number of possibilities for flying and cruising. I am on home oxygen but have been on holiday in USA, and have been on a cruise, and have been on holiday to local places. Once you know where you want to go people on this site will be able to advise.

Hi Bazwag if you could name a likely place you want to go it would help more with your answers. For eg if it were Spain I have just been through the whole process one thing is sure to take a little extra protection carry European Health card that replaced E111. This is invaluable.

Hi Tigree, the places i have in mind to visit are Spain inc the Canaries and Turkey. I do have a EHIC card (why do you say as extra insurance). Regards Bzwag

I actually said extra protection not Ins. You must have a good Ins. I am on BUPA International so that is what I could fall back on.

what did u do regarding oxygen at the resort ?

Bazwag I don't mean E111 as extra Insurance but it can come in useful. The way I got my info, and it took me 5 months almost to put together was I contacted British Consul in Spain and they sent papers written in Spanish for me to request Seguridad Socia equal to NHS to provide me with machine for house and have it ready installed for when I arrived. This will prove when I arrive 31/8/13 Then you need a certificate from Doctor to say you can fly and also that it is necessary to carry 2 small cylinders with you. However this goes on for a while so let me know if you need more info when you decide where you are going as I can only tell you about Spain. Good Luck for a happy hols.

Apply on line for European Health Insurance card. Mine took 10 days. It is free and identifies you as on National Health. When you receive it, it is necessary to blow size up. Try:

Social-Sec.Spain@fcogov.uk

Ask them to send you the travel pack for Oxygen in Spain. Hope this helps.

If you try going through BLF ask the question and they will give you items you need to do. If you are not satisfied come back to me and I will go through it with you. I have my help set up and this will be second time in 6 months I have gone. It also depends where you are staying e.g Private house or hotel. Private house you only pay electric consumed. They do give you a portable item to take out with you it is 2 seconds to charge one to the other. and it is all paid for by NHS England
