How do you get a disabled parking box outside your house, and how do you qualify for one.

I think you have to apply to your local council

I am not at all sure about this. You need to consult your local council. I understand your need because I have the same but I have good neighbours that consider. Dropped kerbs crossed my mind but need to see the area.

I think you apply to your local council. I also think that anyone with a blue badge can use it but don't quote me on that ! :)

I found this on Google though. It mentions it in the last sentence.

you have to be on highest rate mobility.you apply through your local council you can download application form on local council website under blue badge.once you have badge you contact council again and request parking outside your house or they can drop kerb if you can park in your garden

I am pretty sure that even if you did get one outside your house, it would not give you exclusive rights to its usage, I.E. any disabled person could park there !

When I moved into this house 4 years ago I did the drive way so I could get my wifes car in, one car driveway, I also got the pavement done and got the kerk droped, I have a company car, the neighbour next door is a night mare, he has a driveway but parks his car in the middle of the two houses so I need to park round the corner, horrid man, I need to humf laptop and bags to and from the car, just wondered about the disabled box as I have copd and I would benifit having the car parked close to the house.

One thing you will need to be aware of is that if you get a box outside your home anyone with a blue badge can use it. Its not specificaly for you. I do appreciate your problem - I have incredibly ignorat neighbours who park so haphazardly that instead of being able to park 5 cars out front, you are lucky if you can get 3 parked. Its very frustrating. Good luck!

I phoned my local council's Highways Department. They asked if I had a blue badge which I confirmed I had. They sent a surveyor round and they put a no parking bar in front of my drive a week later. All very painless. The procedure for a parking box is the same. Most drivers don't know it but parking in a disabled box or on a no parking bar carries a hefty fine.

Hmmm, but putting a no parking bar on the road means just that, No parking because of the dropped kerb as the resident requires access to their drive. You can't then park a car there as you would then be devaluing the 'H bar' and the council could remove it again.

Having a disabled parking bay defined does not stop people abusing it, and it's not reserved parking by any means. Anyone with a blue badge could legally park there. The highway is public. Disputes with a neighbour are something else.

I have a long white bar infront of my driveway however the lovely guy next door parks his car on it so I cant park my car infront of my house, it's a sim detached. He does it for badness, It would be ideal if I was intitled to a disabled spot outside my house, my mother in law is disabled she could also use it, when she comes to visit the neighbour does the same to her, no one can park outside my house, and im sick of humfing my work stuff up the street to get in and out my car.

If you already have the H bar on the road, to determine that access is required to your driveway, or a dropped kerb, and it is being blocked by someone parking on it then you need photographs and independent witnesses to complain to the council.

Either that or get the offending vehicle towed away and send him the bill :D

Having a disabled spot outside wouldn't stop the abuse, and it's not reserved for your exclusive use if they put one there.
