Hi towse I'm not a health professional but a fellow sufferer.
Antibiotics and steroids is the usual treatment but so much depends on diagnosis as there are many drugs, some to relieve some to prevent.this is a good site for you to have found with lots of knowledgable advice and support.
You can also ring the BLF on Monday 03000 030 555 who have a team of professionals on hand who can help.
Good luck,
Chris
Hi Towse
If you cough yellow/green sputum on a daily basis I would be inclined to ask cons/GP if a a referral to respiratory physio who can help you will techniques and gadgets and gizmos to help with mucus clearance would be of benefit to you.
Love cx
Hi Towse, have you put a sputum sample in lately? sometimes you can be receiving treatment for one infection & another bug can slip in un-noticed, & not respond to the penicillin you,ve just taken, even if the original infection has been successfully treated.
I know you can't do one now but I,d put one in Monday, just for your own piece of mind
Hope you feel better soon
Karen x
Also in addition, ask about mucolytics!
Hello Towse, I am sorry you feel so rough, lots of good advise here, I hope you go back to see your GP and feel a bit better soon. Sending my love Anna x
Hi Kevin, Sillywitch, Cofdrop and Homebreeze for your comments appreciated
Hi Towse
I had a similar problem, my GP sent in sample after sample for checking but they all came back as negative or with minor bugs. It was not until I was in hospital and the consultant asked for specific tests that they discovered a bug called Pseudomonas.
It appears that unless the request is made for very specific tests then just routine tests are carried out, and none of us have the advantage of years of training and even more years of experience to know what to ask for.
If I know I am off to see the doctor, I usually get a sputum jar and take a sample with me, even if they don't send it to the lab, it gives them chance to see exactly what I am producing, their idea of good and bad is a lot better than mine, and their perception of the colour is nearly always not as bad as I think.
Well thank you so much for that I shall be writing my GP as a visit to the Doctor in Jersey is very expensive. So I have been twice this year already but need answers. Thanks Moneal. Audrey
Hello, My husband is sometimes like this for ages and ages. He has just finished his third course of antibiotics and we are just not sure if the infection has cleared up properly. Our Doctor did suggest a sputum sample if it continues. Perhaps you should ring the helpline - they might be able to offer advise about what to ask the GP and what you should expect. Good Luck TAD xx
Thank you Tad and I am grateful to everyone that has given me advise it means I am not alone with my problems. Audrey
Hope you are feeling better Audrey xx I am now on antibiotics and steroids again, infection. I get clear and within 6 weeks it's back again. Then I always get really bad oral thrush which is horrible, worse than the infection, oxygen nurse coming in on Tuesday, will let you know how I get on. If I do find a way to get to Jersey, it would be nice to meet up for a coffee ok xx
