Hi. I was put on the normal fostair inhaler to be taken once in morning and night some years back and never had a problem. In October 2022 I tried the fostair nexhaler which seemed better than having to use a spacer. It worked,one puff in morningone at night.
Now I do tend so my wife tell me talk too much and tend to get a dry throat so have to have a sip of water. All was going well until around I suppose July 2023 I would go to bed and start coughing and coughing sometimes bringing up phlem. It got so back that I would dread laying down so I sat up in bed until coughing subsided. Even then once I lay down coughing would mostly start again.
Could not make out what was causing it if indeed anything was so one day just b4 xmas I took one puff of fostair nexthaler in morning but cut out the evening puff. Low and behold with 2 days I stopped coughing. I then stopped taking nexthaler altogether and went back to the normal fostair even though it was way out of date. Went to docs and decribed what was happening and said the powder was irratining my thoat hence the coughing. Gone back to normal fostair and never coughed since. Even now if I talk too much,which I do not!! I do not start coughing. Has anyone else had this happen with nexthaler??

You could be reacting to the lactose in the NEXThaler. I'm on the dry powder version as I have an intolerance to the propellant in the aerosol type inhalers. We're all different & have different requirements from inhalers and meds, I'm glad you found the right formulation that suits you.
I just don't like the powder inhalers, the stuff sticks to the soft membranes so heaven know how much medication gets to lung much prefer spray type plus spacer plus rinse/ gargle afterwards n before, for good measure!
No, for me it was quite the opposite the fostair nexthaler was the step up from the fostair inhaler (100 fostair 200 nexthaler) and ive been that way for a number of years now
Thasnks for all your replies,it just goes to show what works for one person does not work for another. Nice to get your experiences but I suppose in the end best to see doctor or cardiac dept if prescription is causing problems.
Absolutely, but I was taking 8 puffs of fostair 100 at one point and it just wasn't working and after about 3 months I ended up pretty poorly.... we swapped to seretide, then duoresp spiromax, then fostair 200 nexthaler .... ive been on the fostair 200 now for a number of years
Hi. When I began using the NEXThaler, I had issues where it became painful to swallow food. After having a camera down the throat, it transpired that I had a Candida infection which was caused by a build-up of the dry powder in the NEXThaler. I now make sure I drink water after using Fostaire to help shift any residue in the throat.
Yes I fully get your symptoms . However going to persevere a bit longer . I usually awake with a phlegm cough , going to mention it at my next assessment
Very interesting type 25 about your infection and build up od dry powder. At one stage long b4 nextinhaler was causing me to cough at night which stopped as soon as I came off the nextinhaaler I also had problems. Every time I swallowed food I started to cough. My wifey said i was not chewing my food properly but even as soon a si swalowed jelly I started to cough.
One day just sitting at computer and even without coughing I bought up into my mouth which looked like a bit of hard skin about size of a mand small fingernail. It was white & rubbery but the mistake I made I did not takea photo. Went to docs and I was booked into nose,ear,& throat clinc at hopital. They could not find anything wrong so suggested it was further down in the oesophagus tube but lack of photo or even the pit of rubbery skin was not good. However once I bought this up my couging from swallowing food completely stopped so now I wondering if I also had a build up of power which was partialy blocking theoesophagus ??
