steroid card

Hiya. I have been switched to Fostair 200/6 2 puffs twice daily. I’ve also had 3 courses of prednisolone in the past year. My doctor said I needed to get a steroid card from the pharmacist, which I duly did but when I had my asthma review the nurse said it wasn’t necessary. Does anyone know the rules on this please? Now I’m confused! Thank you :-)

From my understanding the fostair 200 is strong enough for you to need a steroid card ... I have one for this

And like you I also have frequent doses of prednisolone

My local gp and pharmacist do not do steroid cards for fostair 200 or prednisone.

Yes you should carry a card and print on what you are taking. If you had an accident or became suddenly unwell medics need to know that you take steroids.

keep your iPhone updated as health workers rarely have the time or inclination to search for a small piece of card which may or may not be in your wallet, pocket or handbag or even in the fridge!! They will however check your iPhone these days

Actually I've not found that to be the case as I have the official card. With all the apps we have on our phone it can be just as difficult.

I agree with all the above. It's essential that other medics, pharmacists and dentists know that your medications contain steroid.

My sin has been thinned for ten years due sorely to the steroid content in inhalers, in 2015 I had a large dog bite, 22 stitches & had to go daily to a local clinic (in France) to have cleaned & new dressing. The first time nurse went to rip off the large plaster, I said no no, the skin will come off with it, he said no it's not possible so he yanked it off along with all the skin . He apologises, said he'd learnt something that day (so did I, be careful who I trust) he ordered special easy-peel dressings. I've come across medical staff who dismiss the affects of steroid inhalers so its up to us to educate them.

Dentists give patients injections without adrenaline to people using steroid including inhalers.

Addendum, its the size of a credit card so easily popped into wallet.

I hadn’t been given one before but just been in hospital with Covid, pneumonia and a super bacterial infection. The hospital pharmacist issued me with a card as I’m on Fostair

Good morning ,

I hope you don't mind me gate-crashing your chat but thought you might find these resources helpful:

asthmaandlung.org.uk/sympto...

also Right breathe have a great inhalers section where you can check the strength of your steroid inhaler and if card needed - as is in your case

rightbreathe.com/

I hope this helps
