Hi All,

This is a reminder of our planned live Q+A event with Dr Andy on 5th October at 7pm for 1 hour: healthunlocked.com/asthmalu...

If you can't attend please feel free to share your Q's as a reply to this post and we can put them to him - you will be able to read his responses after the event.

A few tips:

Please post your questions as a reply to the AMA post we will share at the time of the event and remember to keep refreshing the page to see replies.

Also keep questions to under 3 lines, and make sure they are not too specific to your own circumstances so that the whole group can benefit from Dr Andy's responses.

Some examples of questions could be:

Why can I not get my reliever inhaler on repeat prescription anymore?

What should I expect from my annual asthma review?

I would like to ask if neutrophils play a role in asthma attacks, as that is the only thing that seems to increase when I have a blood test when my asthma gets worse. Other things such as eosinophils stay the same. Are there any treatments in the pipeline if so, as I've tried Xolair without success and I'm not eligible for any other biologics at the moment.

hello Claire. I may not be able to attend the Q&A session in October. I have seen some questions already and then I saw Dr Andy’s post about keeping the questions to theee lines and not making them too specific to yourself. I don’t see how this is possible! Whatever is personal to one person’s experience are often topics and worries that apply to another people and some of those people may not be able to explain because of the three line rule. .

I don't think this means you can't post anything that you've been concerned about or that you won't be answered if you go half a line over. Just that eg a page's worth of medical history with a really specific question about the questioner's recent blood results and how they should be interpreted in a person who has lupus as well as asthma (random example) might not be the best fit for this Q&A.

But would think fine to say something like ccccc above that you never have raised eosinophils and what does that mean for asthma, and what treatments can you get with this type of asthma. That's personal, relevant to them, but also likely to be relevant to plenty of others. Or something like 'I always get triggered by x but I've been told that isn't an asthma trigger, is that correct?'

I think some people - me included - don't necessarily want to even introduce some questions with their own doctors as it can feel silly/obvious (even though it almost certainly isn't!) But even if Dr Andy doesn't have all the details and can't reply in depth, he can help people realise that their question is totally valid and how to get more answers. I spent years not wanting to ask about how asthma affected my sleep because I kept being told my experience was totally wrong and not asthma...then I read some stuff he wrote on the website about it and it was a massive a-ha moment. More helpful than any medic I've seen and he's never met me and knows nothing about me or my asthma!

yes I understand that. It’s not a personal consultation with a clinician who has your history to hand. Tbh I have no idea what three lines would look like in my phone because that’s all I use. But thank you for replying. I appreciate it.

thank you Claire. Appreciated.

I’d like to ask:

For people without raised eosinophils, is Xolair the only available biologic?

Thanks!

Hi,

I’d like to ask if there is any upcoming treatment for Neutrophilic asthma?

Thanks 😊

is there any new treatment for severe asthma triggered by hot humid air. Have allergy for mould (leaf litter) and pollen but esonophils don't raise so can't get biological therapy. Thanks 😊
