I have been on it for years with little or no side affects. Maybe speak to your pharmacist or GP to discuss how you are feeling.

I’ve been on it since around feb this year. Seems to work well for me and seems to be the defining factor of what bought me out of an awful flare up. If you’re having severe side effects speak to your GP or asthma nurse asap about whether these can be managed or whether or not it’s the right treatment for you

Check out the archives as there are a lot of posts on this drug. It gives some people terrible reactions and is life-changing for others. I couldn't tolerate it and had a bad neurological reaction (crazy psychadelic nightmares etc.) Can you talk to your doctor asap?

The accompanying patient leaflet to Montelukast advises the patient to talk with their doctor immediately if they notice any of the following side effects...

Allergic reactions including swelling of the face, tongue, throat...

Behaviour & mood related changes.

This is covered in section 4 of the leaflet.

i have been taking this montelukast for ove 16 years now and found it to be fantastic but that is just from my experience, other people online have said it didn't work for them, if you do decide to stay on this medication be wary as it can affect your mental health, something i only found out recently after seeing an American article online, i have always had a strong mental capacity to handle stress and could not work out when this changed for me, i suffered a mental breakdown 4 years ago but had been struggling for sometime and could not understand when this started going down hill until i saw the article, i advise that you do your research before committing to any new medication, when i put my findings to my gp, they had no clue about the potential side effects and simply told me that that was in America and had no bearing on the uk? I would think it would not matter where you lived but what do i know, take care

I have also been on for years NO side effects definitely speak to GP or pharmacist.

I took Montelukast for about 6 months. I was ok apart from I had quite vivid dreams and I was sleepy through the day.

It didn’t help my asthma though so I came off it.

If you’re experiencing unpleasant side effects, I would contact your asthma nurse if I was you.

I’ve taken it for a few years as I have atopic asthma and it’s been brill although I take it on a morning rather than at night.I’m also on antidepressants and haven’t noticed it affecting my mental health either but everyone is different so you need to speak to your dr about your concerns

Hi Kidas,

I to have tried Montelukast. I recall my Asthma Nurse saying it can be helpful and effective if you suffer with Allergy related Asthma/exacerbations and i did take it one year during the Spring months when pollen levels were very high and found it helpful but i have tried since and it has not been effective for me at all. Hope you can resolve this soon and you feel better.

I have been taking it for years abd it doesn't help my asthma at all. I take it because it's there!! Maybe one day I will stop it. It just doesn't seem to help my asthma.
