Hello Rileypops and welcome to the forum. I keep checking back to see if anyone has shared their experiences with you regarding children with asthma, so all I can recommend in the meantime is a chat with one of the Asthma UK nurses, who are very knowledgeable and helpful. Don't hesitate to share your concerns with them.Contact 0300 222 5800 (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm).

There's also a few web pages on the Asthma UK website dedicated to childhood asthma. asthma.org.uk/advice/child/

It does sound as though your daughter should also have a regular preventer medicine and the Asthma UK nurses will know more about the options open to your GP because of your daughter's age. I'm sure an asthma plan, made with your GP or asthma nurse would help you with stepping up your daughter's treatment at home when necessary and when to seek additional treatment from them.

All the best.

Hi

I would definitely be in touch with GP/ out of hours service with that much coughing (not an expert but just thinking of my son).

However, on the positive side, if you feel that there had been an improvement with the Montelukast over the last 1-2 months, it may be a genuine improvement with the asthma and this is 'just' a normal kind of cough that she has caught?

I hope she gets some help with it soon. I remember being very stressed with my son's coughs and asthma when he was that sort of age. He is now nearly 7 and it is much more settled. All the best.

I’ve had asthma since I was a similar age and I remember the constant cough and gagging and as I’ve got older it’s got better (apart from if I get any kind of infection) I’ve found that keeping my mouth and throat moist helps a lot and making sure I get as much mucus off my chest as possible. Hope that helps a bit

Hope you get some help, poor child.I got asthma when I was 4, from my mum drying wet sweaters under my mattress so mould was first trigger, now same re mould in house.Getting mould under control, but lots other allergies. As a kid best doc advice was take me up Pennines run in fresh air,let me cough me guts up to clear lungs, swimming, worked.

Doubt that advised now ,inhalers not invented then but loads of meds to help now,yes I’m 109!At least I feel it.

Back to the doc for you, hope can be sorted soon.x
