My wife and I are considering relocating and looking at job offers at various countries. Sydney, Australia is on the list. Can anyone share their experiences with their healthcare system, climate etc, especially compared to the UK? I've lived with asthma in San Francisco, Virginia, and now the UK midlands. The UK has been the worst, Virginia has been the best. I guess Sydney would be like San Fran (even warmer). I am worried about their recent horrific fire season though. I will have filters installed no matter what, and with the climate change I would expect more of the extreme weather to come within the next 20-30 years.
Does anyone have experience with livi... - Asthma Community ...
Does anyone have experience with living with asthma in Australia (Sydney)?
Can’t give any advice but personally I would be wary of Australia. I believe the risk of fires is ever present although the climate changes significantly due to vast area. I know I am much better with dry heat and can cope even with quite hot weather.I am aware (purely through tv programmes) that Australian process can be very difficult for people with pre-existing conditions and they are quite likely to refuse admission….
Am not Australian and only have information via tv and media. Worth asking Australian embassy??
Dunno really. I recall a lovely Australian member over on the BLF forum who lived in Sydney, had copd rather than asthma, had good health care. She used to find the Oz summers unbearable outside of her air-conditioned home or car & thus was several years ago. I may be wrong, I believe Australia is similar to parts of Europe and the US in that the more health insurance you pay the better the health care.
Hopefully some Ozzy members will be along soon with up to date information. P
