I was on fostair 200/6 and spiriva for severe asthma but today they changed my inhalers to trimbow and I was wondering if that was a step back because I read that it is a lower steroid and my chest has been dodgy for the last few weeks

This is has happened to me. I was given spiriva respimat as an add on to Fostair 200/6 and it caused an asthma attack. So then given Trelegy to replace Fostair and breathing was affected. Now given Trimbow 87/5/9 after a few days as soon as I lay down at night breathing was terrible. Pharmacist rang to see how I was doing and suggested using preventer 1 puff before Trimbow. For a few nights I only woke between 3am and 4pm breathless and needed reliever. In morning I used reliever before Trimbow as I was struggling during the day a bit and this worked for me. I’m much better and don’t need preventer before Trimbow in morning only at night. It’s taken a few weeks to get to this point. Pharmacist said the combination of the 3 ingredients in the inhaler are to replace the ingredients in Fostair. But I’d check with your GP first. I was told it takes a few weeks to kick in.

Thanks for your info I have another appointment next week I wasn't expecting them to change my inhalers today so I didn't ask many questions about it I'm just hoping that im wrong because my chest is not to good the less steroids in this inhaler will have less effect on my lungs and then make them more inflamed

I was concerned about that too. I was struggling a bit on Fostair and needing to use my reliever between 2 and 3 times most days and waking during the night often. So needing to use my reliever before Trimbow and during day at first felt like it was wasting my time. But it seems to be improving fingers crossed.

Good Luck, hope you get sorted.

Going from high dose steroid like Fostair 200/6 to medium dose steroid Trimbow is not ideal for severe asthma. More info here: ggcmedicines.org.uk/blog/me...

I was changed to Trmbow last month. it didnt work, I kept with it for 5 days but then had to go back on my other medication and it set me back for a month until I could breath normally again

Hope this may help clarify things (a very brief summary from the webpage suggested by ‘Poobah’);

High dose ICS/LABA inhaler regimes which are not suitable for change to triple inhalers:

Fostair® MDI or NEXThaler® 200/6, 2 puffs twice daily

Relvar Ellipta® 184/22, 1 puff daily

Duoresp Spiromax® 320/9, 2 puffs twice daily

Symbicort Turbohaler® 400/12, 2 puffs twice daily

Flutiform 250/10®, 2 puffs twice daily

Seretide Accuhaler 500/50®, 1 puff twice daily

Seretide Evohaler 250/25®, 2 puffs twice daily
