Dental treatment abroad and travel insurance w/ asthma cover

My mum's due to go to Turkey for dental implant treatment. She has brittle asthma, albeit, controlled. I've found an insurer for the dental aspect, but they won't cover for asthma. Can anybody please give me any suggestions and guidance on what to do?

Thank you.

Well certainly I would look for an insurer who will cover both. If you do a search on both this site and British Lung Foundation site you might find a company to approach.I think a company called Esure gave me travel insurance when I have multiple health conditions.

Also might be giving asthma UK a ring to see if they can make any suggestions.

Metaphorically pulling out my hair in frustration

List of organisations called:

Free Spirit Travel Insurance

GoodToGo

ESure

Avanti

BIBA

ABI

JustTravelCover

AllClearTravelInsurance

GetGoing

Medical Travel Sheild - will provide the dental cover but not the Asthma element

Ellis David

Travel Insured

Again try phoning asthma and British lung foundation helplines who may be able to advise. Also search the Topics on each group may yield some success. I have asthma and COPD plus other issues and was able to get insurance.

I certainly wouldn’t risk going abroad without insurance!

I have asthma and copd and was able to get insurance from esure even though it was only 2 months after a hospital admission (for heart monitoring and angiogram) It was quite expensive though, but not as bad as the quote I got from Saga.It sounds like it might be the dental implant that is the problem. Has your mum considered having it done here? I know that it is cheaper in Turkey, but when you add in the insurance costs there might not be much difference.

I had a dental implant here, It involved 4 visits. (5

if you count the assessment and CT scan.)

1. For the implant.

2. Check up and X-ray to make sure everything was ok

3. About 6 weeks ( maybe more ) for an impression

4. Crown placement.

I can’t remember the cost, but I can find out for you if you like.

My dentist said that there needed to be a period of time (can’t remember exactly) before the crown can be put on because the implant needs to have bone growth around it before it can safely bear any weight. ( The crown)

I’m wondering if your mum might need more that one trip.

Id like to begin by thanking both of you for taking time to read my post and to try and help me. I think there might be a small misunderstanding somewhere borne out of an error of mine to explain the situation better.

I have found an insurance policy provider that will cover her for any issues that arise during implant surgery or arise after it. However, they will not provide cover for problems that are triggered by pre-existing conditions, in my mums case, Asthma.

If my mum didn't have asthma, their policy would have been perfect, and she would have had comprehensive travel health insurance cover.

So my search is to find an insurer who will either 1) Provide cover solely for any issues during surgery that are triggered by the Asthma or Asthma related issues which occur independently of dental implant surgery (2 A comprehensive insurance policy that will cover her for ANY issues that arise from dental implant surgery, including Asthma related.

The cost of surgery in the UK for half the amount of implants is £22k and in Turkey it is costing £9k.

My mum will need a minimum of three and max of 5 trips.

I appreciate the support

Try Sainsbury’s Travel Insurance they are Underwritten by Great Lakes Insurance SE. In the past they’ve been good with me and asthma cover, and they’ve been reasonably priced too. Hope you find someone!

Try an insurance broker. They will know which specialist policies will cover this particular situation. The fact that several insurers have declined suggests the policy is going to be expensive.
