Out of the blue acute asthma attack landed me in A&E I've been admitted and been given a treatment plan and should be home today after a 9 day stay. I have had no asthma symptoms for 20 years and never needed hospitalization before. Just wondering if anyone else found themselves in this situation and do you think its a one off.

It could be. I met someone I hospital who came in similarly having never had asthma previously and she's been fine since.
It will take about 8 weeks for any meds like steroid inhalers to kick in properly so with that and recovery time after the initial acute illness (which always takes time), it might feel a bit fragile for now - but it is possible that it will become ok and not bother you as long as you take the prescribed meds all the time. Some people it's as "easy" as that, some people it takes a while to find the right meds for that to be the case but they do get there and some are controlled for many years and will then have a period where they need a meds change but then all is ok again.
It sounds like you're in good hands and hopefully they'll do a post admission review in a few weeks anyway.
