Face mask guidelines

I have noticed the Asthma UK and BLF websites have changed their advice on wearing face masks. Last year when face coverings became compulsory the websites advised against it and had downloadable exemption cards. Both organisations are now saying they can be worn by people with lung conditions for a short period of time. I would like to know if this change of advice was based on scientific evidence and if so who carried out the research and where is the scientific paper.

I refuse to wear a mask as I have enough trouble breathing with fixed airways asthma and bronchiectasis. If anyone knows please let me know.

I dont know the answer about research. I also have asthma snd bronchietasis but have chosen to wear a mask. I always thought I might be exempt from not wearing a mask but not from getting the virus. Even having my boths jabs I still always wear a mask in the few shops or other ondoors places I go into.

HiI struggle with masks sometimes I can wear to pop into local shop to get small amount of shopping, other days I am choking and can't breathe. (This is worsened when in shops with baskets but no trolleys and having to carry shopping)

A plastic face shield is an acceptable alternative that I will wear if I need to go somewhere for more than 5minutes.

In the winter , scarf was acceptable as used to have to wear over mouth and nose to avoid asthma attack from the wind.

My Vets I struggle to go in because they won't accept face shield and if you can't wear mask you have to stay in car while they take your pet from you. Don't allow people exempt from mask wearing to go in, whereas the dentist when I take person I am carer for (exempt from mas k) are fine with the face shield and don't make big deal.

Face shield may not be as effective as a mask but it is acceptable, breathable and demonstrates you are being considerate.

Hey, I personally choose to wear a mask because I have asthma and want to keep myself as safe as possible. The only time I struggle is if its an especially thick material or if I have to climb stairs in one.
