My husband is currently in hospital,
He's tested positive for C-19 that is no surprise as the rest of the family have had it over the last few weeks.
He is however struggling to keep his 02,SATS stable even though he's on a non re breather mask. His breathing is hard work.
He is convinced that his issues are actually his asthma not the covid.
Any advice welcome
HI, sorry to hear your husband is struggling. I'm no expert but I have also read/heard that COVID is often very separate from asthma and may not affect it that much. I have a friend who had severe COVID and had pre-existing severe asthma (many hospital admissions and ITU trips). Her asthma did flare a little with the COVID, but it didn't sound like it was anywhere near what her asthma can be like on admissions for that.
The main thing was the COVID affecting sats etc and she said it felt very different from asthma (she is very used to what asthma feels like. I don't know what your husband's asthma was like before but if he wasn't a hospital regular he may not be so used to asthma issues that it's easy for him to tell. )
If it is COVID they do have options though - my friend received dexamethasone and an existing arthritis drug that was recently approved for COVID and it made a huge difference.

I wanted to add that I hope you're ok, it's hard for him but also for you because you're not there and you can't actually help him!
So to be less confusing to anyone reading because this makes no sense....
It's highly likely not to be his asthma causing the issues but the covid. It's been well known, discovered etc in the last year that, asthmatics in hospital with covid are there for covid issues not asthma. I've literally just done this myself. Asthma and covid feelings are not the same. I was actually there for my asthma mainly (because if someone isn't going to fit the expectation it's me) but still the issues were very separate. I am incredibly in tune with my asthma because it's complex but I think most people think asthma is tightness/shortness of breath etc (whether they have it themselves or not) so people think that covid is causing or will cause future asthma issues. Having been there, it's refreshingly different, both symptom wise and treatment wise.
There are definite good treatments for the covid - the doctors will be on it. Likewise they will keep an eye and manage any asthma issues so try not to worry (sorry that's stupid, of course you will!)
I hope they get the drugs and other things in place soon so he's more comfortable.
The covid has triggered his asthma and is making it worse. Covid is vicious. I'm severe asthmatic, in January 2021 got very bad covid was not hospitalized, maybe could have been but my oxygen never went to 95%. I have swabbed positive in my 6th week since fever. If he has swabbed positive or has fever, its not his asthma. If the hospital doctors xrayed him and said its not his asthma, then its not his asthma. I supposedly had a mild strain of covid in August 2020. Er doctor assured it wasn't my asthma.
Of course it will be different in each person but having Covid does not mean it is making his asthma worse. They are quite probably not asthma feelings at all. It's impossible to say it is or isn't asthma because of position swabs or fever or anything else. But the doctors will look at the symptoms, the gas exchsnges and the tests and go from there. Covid itself causes these issues (the actual physical problems not simply a sensation of "I can't breathe it's my asthma") though not asthma (in most people)....all people not just asthmatics, suggesting the issues are covid and not asthma.
