I kind of can't be bothered 😂Rates here are way lower than the autumn and late Dec when we had no shielding so 🤷‍♀️

Given is lockdown anyway and can't really do much. And also I can't anyway without repercussions.

I'm with Twinkly on this! I know it affects others more but with national restrictions it doesn't seem that much different, especially since thankfully shielding is not as extreme as the first lockdown. I think they recognised that was ultimately not good for people so at least are encouraging us to get outside this time. Which I do but won't lie I am getting fed up with the same old same old walks.

Also will admit that while I got online shopping and was much more careful in late Dec/all of Jan to be careful I am more relaxed now and do do in person shopping/appointments where needed/pharmacy. I hated relying on others. Obviously I am careful and follow national restrictions. But I will be meeting people outside (with distancing etc) when we are allowed to nationally.

Obviously I know I'm lucky with my work as no pressure there -I know it's harder for others with employers sometimes not being very reasonable, and wanting to actually just get back in (have a friend who really *wants* to be getting back to work and not be isolated).

I feel like I might have to choose one friend to meet up with for a walk...although the nursing home I would have been working in, if not for shielding has lost 8 residents 😢 since Christmas to Covid, so I’m scared now to go out & I just live in a little Dorset village.

I know it's so difficult and we have that new variant here too. An everytime I've gone out I've caught something nasty! I'm do done with same walks too I cant wait for a day trip out. X

Aww that's sad. 😔 It doesn't necessarily mean there's a big issue though - a nursing will.have very old very frail residents and is communal living. So, like with norovirus or something, one case will spread easily and (with covid because of the age and frailty) not have good outcomes.

That’s true Twinkly, although lots of the staff have it or have had it too who mainly live fairly locally. So it takes it outside the home...hopefully people do what they’re supposed to but who knows!

I am a community carer, I also live in a little village but i am not far from the Welsh border .We have had 1 case at work. I did say to work I would be having the second vaccine as advised before coming back .Got my updates shielding email last night .I have days where I feel guilty like I am letting work down. I have to be careful I know I have been referred to a respiratory specialist but still doesn't stop me feeling guilty .

I get the scared going out .We are surrounded by fields but I haven't set foot in our village shop since I got my first letter on Jan 7th .I went to our local cottage hospital for important medical appt and wore two masks and down to our village gp for my vaccination.

Hi Jazz, I wrote a post...it might have been on BLF about feeling guilty for not working, but when I heard about my work place I was really sad 😢 knowing residents I’d cared for had died with covid, but also it made me really thankful for shielding!

I keep trying to remind myself that we are shielding one,to keep ourselves safe, 2, to protect the NHS and 3, to protect others. So really don’t feel guilty! I understand how you’re feeling though!

Thank you that Is a really good way to look at it .

It is strange being at home worked in care for 30yrs since I left school really, love it couldn't imagine doing anything else .I do have amazing bosses and team think that where the feeling bad comes from and I miss the people I care for.

Home schooling keeping me busy supplying tea and toast 😊.

I so sorry you lost residents, they do become like family and you sound like a superb carer. We will get through this and back to the job we love.

I did a few imaginary screams when I read 31 March. I have had it with shielding. I have got to the stage that going to the dentist is a supper exciting outing.

Me too. Was absolutely gutted. Hoped they would at least end it 3 weeks after vaccine date. I am fed up with not being able to go into work. The irony is I was at work in December when things looked much worse. 😫 Looking forward to April now!
