Prednisolone and strange behaviour...!

Hi everyone

I've been on Prednisolone for nearly a year at various doses - also taken it many times over the years as I have severe asthma - so I am used to the usual side-effects (low mood, feeling hyper, craving carbs etc).

But since I've been on a maintenance dose since the summer I've found myself doing some things that are out of character for me. Like before Xmas I lent a friend of a friend £100 - they are now refusing to pay it back as they say it was a "gift" (it wasn't) but knowing what this person is like I'm still angry at myself I did it. Or being very indecisive over small things - I do photography as a hobby and I find myself obsessing over which camera to take out with me - I keep taking one out of my bag and swapping it for another then swapping it back. I do feel quite flat and tired a lot of the time - my cortisol levels are pretty low due to the Pred which is partly why I am on being kept on it for the time being to boost my cortisol levels (madness eh...) - but I am getting worried wondering is this the Pred that is causing me to do these things or is it 9 months of being cut off from the world shielding?! I live with family and have a few good friends I chat to on the phone so I am not totally cut off. Has anyone else found this with Prednisolone?

I spent 6 months on various doses of prednisone and got a little nutty. I have been much better off. I started on Xolair and it has been a game changer for me!

Before I started, my doctor said it may take 3-6months to make a difference. A few months in, when I was still having asthma problems she said to give it a year. I'm glad I did. I'm more than 50 months in!

I have needed a few 12 day courses of prednisone but they are getting farther apart. ❤️🤞💪

Pred Is fine long term - I have been on it for 7 years now. But you will get very foggy if you drop your dose or you do a lot of exercise and don’t up your dose. Long term use suppresses the adrenals so they don’t compensate for stress and exercise. I have to up my Pred by 1/2 mg when I have a busy day and then I have a day of not being with it as I go back to a maintenance dose.

The “off days” as I call them are always a result of dropping the dosage or the day after a strenuous day which I haven’t upped my dose to compensate for.

No-one has discussed this with me, I have heard about sick day rules and was meant to be getting some info from the hospital but nothing turned up. I tend to be very tired first thing then again late afternoon (which is when I've been for a walk so perhaps that's the exercise having an effect.) have an appointment next week so will ask. thanks for the information.
