Could Steroids have masked having Covid?

So following on from my last post when I said I’d had an asthma flare due to my sinuses...I’m now left guessing if I’ve had Covid?

My husband has tested positive but I’m negative!

My husband tested on the basis of loosing his sense of taste and smell..no temp or cough...and just feeling unwell. I’ve felt very unwell for the past 3weeks but just put it down to sinuses and an asthma flare..but I’ve had other possible mild Covid symptoms now thinking back..

Could my symptoms have started before my husband and so I’ve tested too late? I’ve spoke to my consultant and he seems to think there could be a possibility my steroids have masked most of my symptoms..or I’ve avoided contracting it from my husband?...but I know I’ve had something..?

Has anyone had a similar experience? I’m very confused as to what to think going forward🤯

It does seem entirely random (eg I've heard of several cases of only one person in a household getting it - or knowingly getting it) so it's entirely possible you haven't had it. Or have had it and been asymptomatic. Or have had it and it wasn't overly noticeable (particularly as most asthmatics don't seem to be affected any more than anyone else). Or indeed it may just be too soon to be positive as it could take 14 days from exposure to come out so if your husband is the first one then yours (if it comes from him) could still be to come. Unfortunately there's no way to know except that you've obviously got 14 day isolation now that he's tested positive in case you get it next. It really is a weird (and frankly annoying!) virus! And yes the temp and cough aren't always there so all the "is it covid or flu or a cold or one of the other billion viruses that haven't gone away" charts that the media keep sharing are utterly pointless 😅

I hope he doesn't suffer too much and that you've either had it or don't get it!

Yeah we are isolating now and thankfully my husbands recovering well thanks.

It’s just a very strange feeling to get to this point..throughout Covid I’ve just feared the worse case scenario with everything that Ive heard via media etc..

In a strange way I’m hoping I’ve had it and I’ve just proved that I was strong enough to handle it🙌

Although steroids may have masked some symptoms, I know patients that have tested positive for months. There isn't a narrow window of testing positive.

Healing prayers to you both.

That’s a good point, it’s just with the timing of it all I feel that I had symptoms that started before my husbands🤯

I’m looking forward and just thankful we are both ok and will take the positives😊
