Stress induced asthma

Hi all, I currently on furlough from my job ,but there is a chance i may be asked to return within next two weeks, since I've been told this, I notice that my symptoms, wheezing, cough etc, seem to be returning, and all I can think of is the stress of going back into work. Anybody else experiencing this? I had been hospitalised at xmas with a flair up if that's what it was, never felt as bad in my life and was off work til Feb and even then I still felt terrible. Never had any problems with asthma for 3 years previous. Diagnosed 2013 with what they thought was work related and subsequently changed jobs in early 2017. Although classed as clinically vulnerable, so technically didn't have to shield, i didn't leave the house for the first 4/5 weeks after lockdown began and after that only out for a walk I had been advised by my doctor not to go into shops etc if someone can do it for me and be strict with my social distancing whilst out walking etc. My job for majority of times can be done with social distancing but there are occasions I would have to assist with a animal examination which means it's not possible to social distance . Days I work, it would be myself and normally only other person. I just feel myself getting stressed the more I think if it and the thoughts of going into a supermarket terrifies me. My family think I am being irrational regarding this.

Firstly, if you are working with just one other person, things at work should be ok. If that person knows you are vulnerable, then I am sure they will be extra careful. You can always ask that person to wear a mask when you have to assist with an animal examination. It would also be an idea to carry some hand gel and use it regularly.

Secondly, you do not have to go to the supermarket. Continue with home deliveries.

And lastly, if you are not well see your GP about staying off work. If you are sure it is anxiety that is triggering your asthma, bearing in mind you will have to go back to work at some time, now my be the best time. People are still conscious of the threat and it would be a good opportunity to get into a safe working routine. A good point to remember is, your colleague is probably just as anxious as you are.

Thanks for that, i know you are completely spot on, in what you are saying, the longer I am off, i know myself, the harder it will be to go back. It's the initial fear of going out, i know deep down i have to do it sometime.
