Finally a diagnosis !!!

Evening all .... finally I received a Formal diagnosis from a new consultant yesterday... following a recent CT after my 6th admission in 10 mths I have been diagnosed with Tracheobronchomalesia- TBM- floppy airways /collapsing trachea to the lamen !! Along with poorly controlled Asthma... I’ve been fighting the medical profession for 5 yrs despite working in the medical field myself and being told many times it was in my head !!!! The relieve was immense ... which sounds weird as I’ve got a diagnosis which is not easy to treat and asthma which makes the condition progressive !!!! But to finally be believed is what matters ... I often read in here how we are dismissed by Drs time after time when we know our own bodies ... so please feel reassured it does happen and they do eventually listen ...

They are hoping to get the asthma controlled to prevent the TBM progressing !! Fingers crossed 🤞... but just I know I’m not going mad and I can deal with anything they throw my way !!!

Thinking of you all tonight ... keep pushing x

I’m sorry that your path has lead you to your diagnosis but your obvious strength is so inspiring. To keep fighting for that length of time. Amazing. I fought with the medical profession for 3 months over my summer flare. It was soul destroying and that was a very short period of time. I was diagnosed with severe asthma as a child but it mellowed over time. I had a nasty flare that my GP was unwilling to treat claiming that I was having panic attacks rather than asthma. Seemed to find the concept of asthma returning in a more severe form impossible. I was experiencing every negative emotion imaginable. I ended up going to a specialist privately. I think that my surgery is now taking me seriously after I responded to increased asthma meds prescribed by the specialist.
