Asthma strikes again

Just had a moderate attack at home. Salbutamol has controlled the situation. Until a month ago I was feeling really well again. My PF has been jumping around a lot over the last few weeks, sometimes in the green then in the amber. I knew that if I went to see my GP and at that moment in time my PF was in the green I would be sent away. Over the last few days I’ve been very twitchy and more panicky than usual which can be a early warning. Just sitting watching TV and the wheezing came on with a tight chest, racing heart rate. It was the speed that frightened me from one minute ok then bang! I’m producing some gunk which isn’t pleasant (sorry for visual but we have all been there). Not sure what has triggered it but feeling pretty awful now. I know that I’ve got the support of the whole community. Thanks everyone. Just checked PF and it’s back up again. Hope this is a coherent post as I’m a little bit shaken.

So sorry to hear this and I hope you’re feeling a little better now? (When I say better, I mean out of immediate danger). You’ve had such a rough time, I really feel for you. Please do take care...sending lots of well wishes!

Thank you MrsCMK.I’m not in any danger now, just tired and a bit wobbly on my legs. I’ve taken my nightly dose of Seretide so that will open things up a bit more in about 30mins. Actually I’ve had a chuckle. 10mins after I recovered I got an email to say that my prescription was ready, talk about timing!

Hi reslly sorry to hear you feeling poorly again. The anxiety gets me to after my bad attack in the summer. I know you will see the Doc if you need to. I feel the same if you go to the Docs with an ok PF they dont do much. Lots of love and try to relax!!! Easy for me to say wish i could take my own advice.

Good Morning ♡ I ran into a similar situ a couple of weeks ago. I would make an appointment with your GP today/duty doctor just to have a listen and make sure you're as clear as a bell but more importantly, for your doctor to make a referral to the Asthma Clinic.

I say this because in my case, it was the Asthma Clinic that recognised that my medication needed changing up in order to help prevent the more unpredictable moments.

I have been placed on Montelukast based on bloods that were taken, I have also been referred on for "allergy testing" as, simply learning of your potential triggers is a major part to the jigsaw!

Stay positive and reach out to family/friends as you are doing for the support.

Most importantly REST ♡ Let your body recover.

Thank you to everyone who has replied. I truly appreciate all the replies that I receive and the support given by everyone. The weather is going to be colder over the next few days so I’m definitely going to have a scarf around my nose and mouth. I decided a few days ago to crochet my very own personalised one. I’m still learning the art of crochet so hoping it’s going to turn out ok.

Hi!, A tight chest? Have you had this symptom in the past and discussed the tight chest with your GP? If you did not, I recommend you make an appointment with your GP and explain the unexpected tight chest. Your GP will probably prescribe you Prednisolone 5mg tablet. He probably will advise you, only when you have a tight chest restricting the oxygenated air into your lungs, to take 6 tablets daily for 5 days. It will make a difference, not only to free breathing, it will settle your lungs from any existing infection. For longer relief with any future Asthma attacks after using your Salbutamol, you need to train the correct method to inhale and exhale your breathing method. When I was a kid, my PF was and always been at 250 during regular GP visit. Over the 63 years, I suffered with Bronchial Asthma (inherited the health problem gene from my dad). Within a month, my PF raised to 360 after discovering an innovative method to systematically manipulate my body tissues. 360 reading is still considered low. Part of my left lung has been damaged but it does not prevent me from running up a 55 meters, 1 in 3 incline hill 5times, almost every day, with my pet dog. That said, I have not known to have a wheezy chest since 2009. I do not know the extent of your Asthma condition and cannot advise you at the moment. A full self-assessment is required from you before any advice given.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thank You!

Make a little chart of the PF’s you’ve been noting, along with the other symptoms. If there’s any correlation it will become more obvious from your chart.

You might need a change in meds or an additional one. Asthma can change over time.

Thanks Suckitup. I do have a great app that I use which charts my PF and shows me my zones and where I am. I’m struggling to identify any sort of trigger at the moment.

in reply to Junglechicken

That’s why I prefer a home made chart. You can put comments on it. It may not be useful for you.

Suckitup the app that I use does have a comment section. Android phone....called peak flow by Ben Hills (yellow circle) if that helps

How are you feeling today? These out of the blue attacks do rock our boats. Look after yourself

I’m better today thank you Blue-Breeze. My PF is still on the low side, so I’m going to go and have a chat with my GP ASAP. May just say it’s the result of an underlying virus or cold but I do think I need checking over.

Good idea and good luck. My last GP visit said to revisit the asthma nurse for another review (3rd this year). That might also be worth an avenue?

Well it’s a course of pred for me unfortunately. My own GP couldn’t see me so I had to go to a walk in centre on the other side of the city. Saw a lovely lovely doctor who actually talked sense about asthma. He felt as my PF was below my best and I was obviously in a flare that was only going to get worse. No fight or argument was necessary on my part just straight to pred. So refreshing! Recommended that I see my GP again in a few weeks even if I feel well. Actually wished me better on the way out!

That's good you got someone who listened to you. You will feel better in a few days, ...Here's hoping..

Still take it easy though no rushing about just because you feel better.

I’m rubbish at staying still. Washed all the windows at home yesterday. Oops!

Sorry to see you ended up on steroids in the end but not overly surprised given things weren’t picking up at all!

Really glad you saw a helpful doctor who listened too 😊

Junglechicken in reply to Js706

Thanks Js706. I was going to leave it until i got really bad but I had a feeling that the result was always going to be pred. I was also risking another attack which is extremely foolhardy! The longer I left it the worse I was going to get and I would end up needing much more pred than if I had gone straight away. This way nips it in the bud and I got to meet a helpful understanding GP. It’s turned into an everlasting rollercoaster and in my head I’m screaming “I want to get off”. I think we’ve all been there and I’m not alone in thinking that. I know I’ll get used to the new status quo (I did with my other chronic condition which took 10 years of tweaking treatment to control but we got there) just takes time. There are 3 chronic conditions that run in my mum’s family, I got 2. Argh cruel cruel DNA. 🙄

Yep, sometimes you just have to give in to stop you needing more treatment later on no matter how much you don’t want to!

I definitely know the feeling with the rollercoaster 😂 I can’t say I’ve managed to get off mine but it’s a bit of a smoother ride now in terms of knowing what to do at certain points!

The joys of genetics eh? My family is full of allergy and respiratory problems and I seem to have picked them all up!
