i have been breathless now since mid April with also a dreadful unproductive cough
i feel like i can't take a full breath in
last night i coughed so much i think i've pulled a muscle in my tummy
i have had my inhalers changed and been put on 3 times a week anti biotics
also furosomide as i had some fluid in my lungs
can any one help please as i feel i cant go on like this much longer i have no quality of life at all
i'm frightened of whats coming
i have an appointment at the respiratory clinic on wednesday but to be truthful i feel i'll be lucky to get there,i've never felt so ill in all my life
by the way a few details i'm 70 years old .....i take spirolto inhaler and ventolin of course....my asthma was diagnosd when i was in my 40's........i have one third of my left lung missing from an op 25 years ago.....i smoked heavily till 25 years ago
any input would be happily recieved

Hi is spirolto inhaler new or your old medication. I was changed to this and it made my symptoms worse. Peak flow dropped, coughed all the time ( call this my asthma cough), felt unwell, needed to use ventolin
It's my new inhaler but my symptoms have been the same before I started on it ....but I will mention what you said when I see the consultant on Wednesday ...I was on seratide inhaler for many years ....I have tried fostair etc and I'm allergic to it and to many inhalers and anti biotics and this makes prescribing difficult ..... ....thank you for taking the time to reply
I have found a lot of the preventer inhalers cause cramps as well as other side effects. After 8 months of being very poorly shall we say my consultant put me on Spiriva respimate (this really helped). The meds change idea was due to a emergency admission in June.
I do hope the new Inhalers help you. Have they suggested anything else like pulmonary rehab? You are bound to feel low, it's only natural it's a lot to take in.
DanceQueen, I can't give you any advice, but I can give you some sympathy for what you are suffering. I'd push it with the consultant to find any underlying cause by way of chest Xrays, blood tests etc, which is what happened to me through my GP. Plus, you should have a dedicated asthma nurse at your surgery whom you can call when in distress. It's dreadful that you are suffering on your own with no help. Let us know how you go on. Loonadyar thanks so much for your input....just to know people care is helping with my mood....i'm not a suicide type of girl i love my family too much but its got so some mornings i just don't want to go on.......i'll keep you all up to spec......thanks
You're very welcome, but it's a little concerning that you feel the way you do each morning. I think you may be quite depressed and in need of some help. It's not right to feel so miserable each morning. I think you should speak to your GP about the way you feel. Get an appointment asap, you can't battle this on your own. Please pick up the phone and ring - even though it takes some time to see them, you may feel better knowing that you have taken the first step to getting the help you need. You have to look after ourself as nobody, including family, really know how we feel. Don't suffer in silence thinking it will all go away, it won't, till you tell the doc about it. I went like this for about 2 years coughing all the time had all the usual checks for my asthma then I was diagnosed with acid reflux got medication and never felt better coughing stopped breathing controlled just an idea might help .
