Yes, this is a classic scenario, with your stomach over-full, the acid overcomes the muscle that closes the valve at the top of your stomach, the fumes/acid moves into your oesophagus and gets into your lungs, this irritates the delicate lining of your lungs/bronchi, producing swelling/mucus - result asthma. Things to look at - what food triggers it, mine is anything related to onions/garlic/leeks/tomatoes/citrus fruit/alcohol/caffeine/chocolate/grain husks - like wheatmeal/wholemeal - so I eat oats, chew your food well, sometimes milk calms it for me, though it is a trigger for some. When you sleep, try to sleep on your back or on your left side, if you sleep on your right it puts more pressure on the stomach valve. A doctor will give you proton-pump-inhibitors (PPI's), though long term use is to be avoided, I took them for a few days at a time when needed for the first 6 months, but now avoid the food triggers and don't need the PPI's. If this is a common theme for you - it's good to discuss with your Doctor, so it is on your records and GERD/Asthma is the diagnosis. All the best - Mark
