Cough and Steroids

Hi, I am cough cough cough again, my question is, does anyone else start coughing again a few days after stopping steroids? I seem to be put on steroids when I am like this, they seem to help at the time with the cough, even if they make me feel really ill. I just dont want to go back to the dr only to be put on steroids yet again, had 4 lots now, and be no further forward after feeling rubbish being on them. I cant live on steroids, I am unable to do anything, also I am far too big already. Does the steroids stop the asthma cough ever? I need it to stay stopped.

I know this rant, is just that, I dont want steroids, do drs ever use other medications instead? If they do, do they work?

Hi

I have brittle asthma and have had a nasty cough for 6 months ect. Sorry to hear you’ve been unwell it can be such a pain and long recovery at times. I have been on steroids for 3 months and know how horrible the side effects are ext, I am still weaning down and will be on them Til late August !

I also feel like my symptoms persist including the cough whilst on steroids.

Hi, that seems such a long time to feel horrible being on steroids. I hope you feel better soon.

I have been started on medication. Montelukast, I hope it works.

Hi. Sorry for the late response . I take montelukast and find it very helpful. Have you noticed any difference in symptoms or changes yet?

I hope you are feeling somewhat better and your coughing has improved or stopped.

Hi, still caughing, mainly morning and evening, but its a lot less, not coughing 24/7 as previously. I think montelukast is working. No longer have a wheeze. Feeling better. Hospital tomorrow. Hope you are well too.

YES!!!

I have had a nasty cough for 3 months requiring my ventolin on a daily basis. Was put on steroids, which improved my cough and when I finished the steroids it came back with a vengeance! Went back to the Doctors, she couldn’t understand why and put me back on steroids on a higher dose!

Have you asked about changing your preventer inhaler to see if that helps?

I’m also on montelukast and fexofenadine which certainly helps in the flare up months.

Hope it gets sorted.

Its happened 4 times to me. I usually get a couple of days off steroids and it starts again. I hope we all get sorted, that would be amazing.
