Fostair inhaler

Hi my sister has been rough with her asthma for the past month. She has had 3 courses of steroids. She takes uniphyllin tablets, fostair inhaler, spiriva inhaler and ventolin inhalers. She has now been told by gp to stop taking uniphyllin tablets and to take her fostair 2 puffs 4 times a day. She is out of breath every time she does anything. Does anyone else take fostair 4 times a day.

I did and it will help open her airways faster as something has triggered an attack off and that is not being controlled correctly. Would be advisable to get a check up in a few days to see how your sister's asthma is doing

Thank you for reply. My sister takes fostair nexthaler 200/6.

I am on the pump of fostair. She could ask for the pump as that might be the problem. You can get fostair as a pump. It's pink with a green cap which can be used in a spacer. Definitely talk to the nurse or doctor though

Yes, I have been taking Fostair 100/6 four times a day for a little over 2 years. I also use Ventolin about 15 minutes before the Fostair which I was advised to do to 'open up' the airways in order that the Fostair would be more effective. I use a spacer with both inhalers.

Thank you for replying. My sister has the fostair nexthaler 200/6. So cannot use a spacer with it.

Sorry, I was obviously not aware of that initially. As Camilla22 suggested it may be worth your sister asking for a change unless she is happy with her nexthaler. I personally am not a fan of powder inhalers but we are all different.

I, prior to having the dose of Fostair increased, took Uniphyllin but found no benefit at all from that. I did notice an improvement after the increased dose of Fostair although it took about a month to fully kick in.

Whatever happens I hope that she gets some benefit from the new prescription.

Tell your sister for me good luck. I hope this will assist her feeling better. If she is interested in knowing more about her fostair. Here is a website to help her

Sorry late reply. Apparently you can take fostair up to 12 puffs a day according to my now ex consultant. What a mess it made me and I do know it helps many but the thought of it makes me want to cry and my family did cry at the state I was in. Side effects awful. Uncontrollable shakes so couldn't hold a cup or cut food to eat, constant breathlessness to name but a few. I now take seretide, spriva and use ventolin when needed what I was taking prior fostair. I have never had uniphyllin but sound like a bronchodilator to open airways. Was she better before the fostair? Has it been the winter or a chest infection? Think back to what she was taken before the three months and maybe you can find some answers as to what to ask next. Best wishes if i can help let me know.😊
