Hello

Just wondering if anyone else gets wheezy on and off a couple of weeks before a severe asthma attack? I did last time a few months ago before an asthma attack and I was hospitalised and now I am starting to wheeze on and off again. Thank you. Amy

I think we all get to know our own triggers & warning signs & I'm sure that if your experience tells you that this could be a warning sign, then you should probably act on it. I'd go see your GP & explain you are wheezing. Have you been taking your peak flow? Is there any change, even minor? Also, do you have a management plan? If so, it might be that you should follow whatever your next step is.

If in doubt though, don't take risks - speak to the GP before it gets bad.

Do you think if I called the asthma nurse she would put me on steroid tablets and antibiotics to prevent another asthma attack?

It's hard to know to be honest; it will depend on what you tell them, what any tests they do show, the attitude & approach of the prescriber & so on. However, I'd have a guess that if they listen to your chest & hear rattling or wheezing, there's a good chance they will.

Just a bit of a tip really, but get clear in your mind what you want to communicate to the nurse/GP, e.g. - I am wheezing, I feel short of breath, last time I felt like this I ended up in hospital. It's easy to become flustered in the surgery (I'm in my 50s & still turn into a mumbling idiot when sat with a GP who is 20-odd years younger than me!), so just being clear will help you.
