I have read some interesting things about cbd oil and asthma.

Has anyone tried this who has severe asthma?

A biochemist told me CBD oil is nothing more than expensive vegetable oil!

And yet the reports out do nothing but state the benefits. Interesting

I haven’t read about particular benefits to asthma, but more it’s a ‘cure all’ linked to anxiety. Maybe a placebo affect? What are your thoughts?

Well I’ve read it reduced mucus hyper-secretions and possible regulates exaggerated inflammatory responses in the body.

So I just wondered if anyone had tried it.

If the claims were true I think it would be endorsed by the medical profession.

Never will be by most medical professional as they only interested in science

in reply to angievere

It is endorsed by the medical profession and is prescribed to control pain and seizures.

You are thinking of Cannabis oil which has the psychoactive compound THC. CBD oil doesn’t contain THC which is why it’s sold over the counter.

A biochemist would say that, they are scientists and don’t believe in nature’s products

But quite a few 'pharmaceutical' drugs are derived from natural products - off the top of my head, some opioids, several cancer drugs eg the taxanes, digoxin, atropine, some antibiotics, some asthma medications. Natural products are still of great interest as potential drugs, though are not available for everything (eg a game-changing cancer drug transformed the lives of people with a certain kind of leukaemia, and it was entirely artificially designed and is fairly well tolerated, vs the old treatment of interferon which our body produces naturally but as a drug is very hard to tolerate as it has so many side effects - some people preferred to take their chances with a fatal cancer at times if interferon was the only option.)

I personally prefer to take things which have been purified and tested for safety and efficacy, which *is* now done before a drug can be approved. Not saying the industry or scientists are perfect.or always get it right but I still prefer to know the testing has been done. Many of nature's products are strong and can be highly toxic in their 'natural' form - they need to be adapted and changed to be more safe and effective.

CBD oil is a lot of hype .

Tried it , and can tell you that it is expensive , tastes disgusting and is useless .

Anyone thought that CBD might trigger an asthma attack ?

But I also think the pharmaceutical companies have lots to lose by endorsing a natural product.

I personally think a cure for cancer has been found, but not in their interest to release it.

Cancer isn't really one disease though but many - I dislike the way it gets portrayed as one. Approaches that work well.for one type do nothing for others - and cancer can adapt and become resistant as well as hijack our own immune systems. As mentioned in another reply on this post, some cancer drugs are derived from.natural products (eg taxane chemotherapy from yew berries), but these are often quite potent and toxic in their raw form and have to be changed by scientists to make them usable in people without killing them.

It is hard to get your head round how someone would think a cure for cancer has been found but its being kept a secret, what websites are you reading.

Research for cancer is done by thousands of organisations, universities, hospitals, charity run labs, state run and private companies.

If there were a cure it would have been discovered by many people due to just how much varied research is going on, but you think thousands of doctors and researchers and administrators are all in a huge conspiracy to stay silent. That makes no sense.

Ok maybe that’s a big statement but do I think the pharmaceutical companies are keen on us all making them lots and lots of ongoing money yes.
