Has anyone had a manatol respiratory challenge? I’m about to have one and am feeling very nervous

Hi yes I’ve had 1 (well technically 2 but the first one didn’t count as my spiro suggested asthma with out it 😅)

It’s nothing to be worried about. Basically you do a spiro, breath a small amount of manatol basically like a neb, do a spiro and repeat until you show a change (I think its to about 80ish% - so a loss of about 20% function). You may or may not be asked to rate your level of breathlessness as you go along. When you’ve had enough change you’ll take your ventolin and do a reversibility test. If you don’t return to baseline you’ll have a neb.

It’s nothing to be worried about - on mine the worst I felt was mildly breathless. Hope that helps xxx

Hi when are you having it? Mine wasn't the most fun as I was breathless and coughing from.stopping meds before but it didn't take too long to react and then got back.to baseline ok. The person doing it was very nice and explained what was going on etc/didn't rush me.

Hope it goes well, feel free to ask more questions!

I had the mannitol challenge 8 years ago when my diagnosis was confirmed. I don't remember it being anything other than ok. They are very quick to treat any reaction they need to treat. I reacted to the first dose (so the test results showed) so it didn't last long, but it can go on longer as I think they continue until you've had a certain dosage of mannitol overall, unless tests show a 20% drop in the meantime.
