Fvc is 79% and am 21 years old

I finally adhered to the advice that was given about my uncontrolled asthma. I did a lung function test and my fvc is 79% compared to when I did it 6 months ago when it was 77%. I am glad it improved but I heard that the normal result is 80% for healthy patients.

The doctor said I had airflow obstruction but will subsequently improve if I stay away from what can triggers my asthma.

My question is don't you think my lung function being 79% is bad for my age as am just 21 years old. I do use seretide, monteleukast and Ventolin inhaler

FVC on its own doesn't per se tell you a great deal, as it is just one of a series of numbers that a spirometry test will give you. A full test will look at peak flow, FEV-1 (air blown out in 1 second), FEV-6 (ditto but 6 seconds) and some ratios between those numbers. When did you last have a full spirometry test? It might be worth asking the surgery if they can arrange one (the practice nurse will normally do it if they have the equipment) & they can talk about the picture more fully, & also advise if you need to modify your medication at all.

Are you feeling breathless more than you think you should? And do you know what the triggers you need to avoid are?
