Surviving in the heat!

I feel like i cannot get a breath properly. You know when you're legs are tired it feels like you're wading through tar, breathing feels like this! Its horrible. Some sob and tight chest but mainly not being able to get a proper breath which is making me feel dizzy and exhausted. I think down to the heat. Im on Montelukast and fostair. Taking my blue inhaler up to 8 times a day. My asthma nurse and gp wont give me any further advice until i see the chest specialist. Which is a couple of weeks away! Just looking for some advice on how everyone is coping. Thanks

Hi,

Sorry you are struggling but I'm sure many of us are in the way you describe.

I am doing everything at a snails pace, not doing anything I don't have to do and taking very frequent rests sitting down. I'm also avoiding going outdoors unless there is a breeze blowing.

I find sitting with a fan blowing gently on my face helps a lot but I'm fortunate that my asthma is late onset and not allergy related. I mention this because I believe that fans can disturb dust which can affect those with allergies.

I use a spacer with my inhalers (ventolin & fostair) which I think delivers the medication more efficiently into the lungs but still need to use ventolin 6 or 7 times a day some days.

The only other thing I wondered is do you think you have a chest infection? If not then I hope my experience & coping strategies help a little.
