I have what seems like a chest infection which has obviously triggered my asthma. just wondering how low my oxygen levels should go before getting help! they are currently 90%. i panic a bit as my lung collapsed when i was younger due to an attack and I don't want that to happen again. sometimes I worry i am being over the top.

Normal range according to amperor (manufacturer) are 94% - 99%. The advice suggests that if it falls below 90% "with patients with mild respiratory disease medical advice should be sought. (Apparently nail polish or pressed on nails can interfere with readings and should be removed!)

Does it vary when you sit down, slow down your breathing and relax? Quick shallow breaths from panicing can make things worse - as you know! :)

Do you have other symptoms and have they increased recently? What is your peak flow like? Check yourself and then see if you think you need to speak to a doctor. If it goes below 90% and you feel more breathless then best to get medical advice.

Hi your sats sound quite low but unless they go to the mid 80's or less for quite a long period then there is no danger of damage to your other organs. I would go also by how you feel. If you feel ill then seek further medical advice.

If you are not sure it's best to see a doctor as it's much better to be safe than sorry. Never take any chances with your lungs. x
